Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Senior IT Engineer
Align your credentials to U.S. specialty occupation standards
USCIS evaluates whether your Australian degree maps to the specific IT engineering discipline your role requires. A three-year Australian bachelor's is generally accepted as equivalent, but a credential evaluation letter strengthens your petition if your major doesn't precisely match the job title.
Target employers with active LCA filing histories
Companies that have previously filed Labor Condition Applications for IT engineering roles understand the DOL certification step and won't treat the E-3 visa process as novel. Search DOL's OFLC disclosure data to confirm an employer has filed LCAs in your target job category before accepting an offer.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to streamline your offer-to-visa timeline
Once you have a signed offer letter, Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service handles LCA submission, I-129 preparation, and consulate appointment coordination, reducing the risk of documentation errors that cause delays between offer acceptance and your start date.
Address the specialty occupation question in your offer letter
Your employer's offer letter should specify that the Senior IT Engineer role requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field. Generic IT job descriptions have drawn USCIS scrutiny; letters that reference the degree requirement directly support a cleaner visa application.
Prepare for consulate questions about your project scope
Consular officers at Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth regularly ask Senior IT Engineers to describe what they'll be building or managing and why it demands their specific qualifications. Prepare a concise technical summary of your role that connects your engineering background to the employer's infrastructure or systems needs.
Factor the 60-day grace period into your transition planning
If your current U.S. employment ends, USCIS allows a 60-day grace period before your status lapses. Senior IT Engineers changing employers should have a new LCA filed by the new employer before that window closes to maintain continuous authorized status.
E-3 Visa Senior IT Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Senior IT Engineer jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for E-3 sponsorship roles in the U.S. You can filter Senior IT Engineer positions by employers who have a demonstrated history of sponsoring E-3 or similar work visas, which removes the friction of cold-approaching companies unfamiliar with the process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Senior IT Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3 visa?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a directly related field. Roles that include systems architecture, cloud infrastructure, network engineering, or platform development consistently meet the USCIS specialty occupation standard. Generalist IT support roles with no specific degree requirement can raise issues, so the job description matters.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Senior IT Engineers?
The E-3 has no annual cap and no lottery, so your employer can file at any point in the year and you can start once the visa is approved. The H-1B visa is capped at 85,000 annually and requires lottery selection, meaning most applicants wait a year or longer for an available slot. For Senior IT Engineers with Australian citizenship, the E-3 is a significantly faster and more predictable route.
Can I change employers on an E-3 as a Senior IT Engineer?
Yes, but you can't port your existing E-3 to a new employer the way H-1B portability works. Your new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and you'll need to attend a new consulate appointment to receive a visa stamp reflecting the updated employment. The process typically takes several weeks, so coordinating your transition timing with your grace period is important.
