Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Systems Programmer
Align your degree to the role
DOL and USCIS assess whether your specific degree field supports a Systems Programmer position. A computer science or software engineering degree maps cleanly; an unrelated field requires documented equivalency through a credential evaluation before your employer files the LCA.
Target employers with active LCA histories
Search the DOL's Foreign Labor Application Gateway (FLAG) for employers who have previously certified LCAs for Systems Programmer or closely related SOC codes. Prior LCA filings signal that the employer already understands the E-3 sponsorship process and is less likely to stall mid-offer.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Migrate Mate filters Systems Programmer jobs by E-3 sponsorship history, so you're only seeing roles where employers have actively sponsored Australians before. Start your search there to avoid wasting time on companies unfamiliar with the E-3 process.
Clarify sponsorship before technical interviews
Many U.S. employers conflate E-3 with H-1B and assume a lottery is involved. Confirm upfront that E-3 is cap-free and employer-filed before you invest time in technical rounds. A one-line explanation during the initial recruiter call prevents last-minute rejections at the offer stage.
Get your LCA certified before your consulate date
The LCA must be certified by DOL before you can attend your visa interview. Standard DOL processing runs around seven working days, so your employer needs to file with enough lead time. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to manage LCA submission and consulate preparation end-to-end.
Prepare for specialty occupation scrutiny at the consulate
Consular officers occasionally question whether a Systems Programmer role meets the specialty occupation standard. Bring your employment letter, LCA, and academic transcripts showing your degree aligns with the technical responsibilities described in your job offer.

Find Systems Programmer JobsSystems Programmer E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Systems Programmer jobs with E-3 sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for E-3 visa sponsorship. It surfaces Systems Programmer roles from employers with documented sponsorship histories, so you can focus on opportunities where the company already understands the E-3 process. Searching through general job boards often returns roles where employers have no prior E-3 experience and may decline to sponsor.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Systems Programmer role qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Systems Programmer positions generally qualify because the role typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a directly related technical field. The key is that your job offer must specify degree-level requirements tied to the role's responsibilities. If the employer's posting accepts any degree field or does not require a degree at all, the specialty occupation standard may not be met and the E-3 application could be challenged.
How does the E-3 compare to H-1B for Systems Programmer roles?
The E-3 is available only to Australian citizens, but it has no annual cap and no lottery, which is a significant practical advantage over the H-1B. For Systems Programmer roles, this means you and your employer can target a specific start date without lottery uncertainty. The E-3 is also renewable indefinitely in two-year increments, so there's no built-in expiry pressure on your employment as long as your role and sponsoring employer remain in place.
Can I change employers while on an E-3 as a Systems Programmer?
Yes, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA and you'll need a new E-3 visa reflecting the updated sponsorship before you start work with them. There's no portability provision equivalent to H-1B's AC21 rule, so timing matters. If your current E-3 is still valid, some practitioners advise obtaining the new visa stamp during a trip outside the U.S. to avoid any gap in authorization.
