Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Systems Security Engineer
Align your credentials to U.S. specialty occupation standards
Your Australian bachelor's degree in computer science, information security, or a related field satisfies the E-3 visa specialty occupation requirement. If your degree is in a different discipline, document how your coursework and certifications like CISSP or CISM map to the security engineering role.
Target employers with active security clearance pipelines
Defense contractors, federal agencies, and financial institutions regularly sponsor E-3 holders for security engineering roles. Search DOL's OFLC disclosure data to confirm which employers have filed Labor Condition Applications for security-related job titles in the past 12 months.
Clarify E-3 sponsorship requirements before accepting an offer
Before signing, confirm your employer will file the Labor Condition Application with DOL and cover the associated costs. Some companies treat E-3 sponsorship as employee-paid. Getting this in writing prevents disputes after you've resigned your current position.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to streamline your application
Once you have a signed offer letter, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork from start to consulate appointment. This avoids the coordination overhead of managing DOL submissions and DS-160 preparation across time zones.
Prepare for technical and visa questions at your consulate interview
Consular officers assess both your qualifications and your nonimmigrant intent. Bring your degree transcripts, any security certifications, and your offer letter detailing the specialty occupation duties. Be ready to explain how your specific role requires a degree-level background in cybersecurity or a closely related field.
Structure your job search around roles that specify degree requirements
E-3 eligibility depends on the role being classified as a specialty occupation. Prioritize positions where the job posting explicitly requires a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. Generic listings that say 'degree preferred' can create complications during the LCA certification stage with DOL.
E-3 Visa Systems Security Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Systems Security Engineer jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists Systems Security Engineer roles from employers who are open to E-3 visa sponsorship, so you're not filtering through listings that won't consider Australian candidates. The E-3 has no lottery and no cap, which makes Australian professionals attractive to employers who want to avoid H-1B visa uncertainty. You can search by role, location, and sponsorship status in one place.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
How does the E-3 visa compare to H-1B for Systems Security Engineers?
The E-3 is available exclusively to Australian citizens and has a 10,500 annual cap that has never been fully used, so there's no lottery and no waiting period. H-1B requires entering a randomized lottery each April and, if selected, waiting until October 1 to start. For security engineering roles with strong demand, the E-3 gives you a predictable path your employer can rely on.
Does my Australian cybersecurity degree qualify me for an E-3 as a Systems Security Engineer?
A three-year Australian bachelor's degree in computer science, cybersecurity, information technology, or a closely related field is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree for E-3 purposes. If your degree is in a different discipline, professional certifications like CISSP or CISM combined with relevant work experience can support the specialty occupation determination, but the degree-field match remains the cleanest path.
Can I change employers while working in the U.S. on an E-3 as a Systems Security Engineer?
Yes, but each new employer must file a fresh Labor Condition Application with DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp if you travel internationally before the new employer's LCA is in place. You can start working for the new employer once USCIS approves the new petition if you're already in the U.S. in valid E-3 status, but there's no portability provision equivalent to what H-1B holders have under AC21.
