Education Counselor Jobs in South Carolina: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a education counselor in South Carolina?
To work as a school counselor in South Carolina, you need a master's degree in school counseling and an educator license with a School Counselor credential issued by the South Carolina Department of Education. Candidates must complete a state-approved graduate program, pass the relevant Praxis specialty exam, and fulfill a supervised internship. For postsecondary or college advising roles, a master's in counseling or higher education is typically required, though state licensure is not always mandated outside K-12 settings.
Which companies hire education counselors in South Carolina?
South Carolina education counselor roles are posted by State of South Carolina, Magellan Health, and Three Rivers Midlands and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Large K-12 districts, the University of South Carolina system, and community colleges such as Midlands Technical College are among the most consistent sources of openings statewide.
Which South Carolina cities have the most education counselor jobs?
West Columbia, Greenville, and Columbia have the most education counselor openings in South Carolina. Columbia leads because it is home to the state capital's large school district, the University of South Carolina, and several community colleges, while Greenville and Charleston generate steady demand through fast-growing public school systems and anchored higher education campuses serving expanding regional populations.
Are there remote education counselor jobs in South Carolina?
Yes, but they're rare. About 21% of education counselor openings tied to South Carolina are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the hands-on, relationship-driven nature of most counseling roles. The portions of the work most likely to be done remotely include virtual college advising, online student success coaching for distance-learning programs, and certain administrative or compliance-focused counseling coordinator positions.
How can I get hired as a education counselor in South Carolina with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a graduate practicum or internship placed within a South Carolina school or college, which many hiring districts count as qualifying experience. Greenville County Schools and Richland School District Two regularly bring on provisional license holders completing their supervised hours. Adjacent roles such as academic advisor, student services coordinator, or enrollment specialist at a community college let candidates build a counseling-adjacent record before stepping into a licensed counselor position.
Where can I find and apply to education counselor jobs in South Carolina?
You can find and apply to education counselor jobs in South Carolina on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings, find roles that fit your background and location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
