Position Summary

Gateway STEM Academy, a K–8 charter school in Saint Paul, MN, is seeking a passionate and dedicated K–8 Physical Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will deliver engaging, standards-aligned physical education instruction that promotes fitness, teamwork, healthy lifestyles, and social-emotional development for all students. This role requires collaboration with classroom teachers, support of school-wide wellness initiatives, and a commitment to culturally responsive and student-centered instruction.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach engaging, developmentally appropriate physical education lessons for students in grades K–8.
• Promote physical fitness, health, and wellness through a variety of sports, games, and movement activities.
• Foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and social-emotional growth in a positive and inclusive environment.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs and abilities of students.
• Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments and use data to guide instruction.
• Collaborate with colleagues to integrate wellness and physical activity into the school culture.
• Communicate regularly with families about student progress and ways to support health and fitness at home.
• Participate in professional development and school-wide initiatives to support continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
• Valid Minnesota teaching license in K–12 Physical Education.
• Experience teaching or coaching physical education in K–8 settings (preferred, but not required).
• Demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive and inclusive teaching practices.
• Strong classroom management skills and ability to build positive relationships with students.
• Knowledge of fitness, health education, and child development.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with colleagues, students, and families.
