Job Description:
The Resilient Communications software engineering organization is seeking a Level 4 Software Engineer focused on system software development for embedded devices and communication systems. This role leads significant features, integrations, and technical problem solving across the software development life cycle while working closely with systems engineering, software peers, and program leadership. The ideal candidate brings strong system software experience, sound technical judgment, and the ability to influence technical direction for features or subsystems in support of complex development programs.
Essential Functions:
- Develop software for systems and embedded devices from requirements through production and support.
- Lead significant software features, integrations, and technical execution activities across the development life cycle.
- Work closely with cross-functional team members to develop operational performance requirements, interface software and hardware components, and collaborate on system design.
- Support and participate in all phases of the software development life cycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, integration, and formal testing.
- Contribute to software test plans, procedures, and other relevant technical documentation.
- Participate in peer reviews, identify, track, and repair defects.
- Collaborate with a cross-functional engineering team and help define technical direction for features or subsystems.
- Utilize a variety of software languages and tools on Windows, Linux, and embedded real-time operating systems.
- Support software bids and proposal inputs in response to customer requests and government requests for proposal.
- Travel is minimal.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field with 6+ years of relevant software engineering experience, or a Master’s degree in one of those fields with 4+ years of relevant software engineering experience.
- Experience with object-oriented software development using C++.
- Experience with embedded real-time software development in Linux or VxWorks environments.
- Experience with high-performance and multi-threaded programming.
- Demonstrated depth of knowledge in programming languages, compilers, and application execution.
- Experience leading significant features, resolving complex technical challenges, or providing technical direction for subsystems.
- Ability to collaborate across engineering disciplines and influence execution without direct authority.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance, if required for the program.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced proficiency with C++.
- Experience working with Department of Defense programs.
- Experience with hands-on software development and troubleshooting on embedded targets.
- Experience in embedded systems design, including use of a real-time operating system.
- Working knowledge of signal processing, control systems, or networking.
- Knowledge of protocols such as IP, UDP, TCP, and IPsec.
- Solid presentation and technical writing skills.
