Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Jobs
Verify your degree meets specialty occupation requirements
Pull your occupation's O*NET profile and confirm it lists a bachelor's degree in a specific field as the standard entry requirement. A general business degree won't support an E-3 for a software engineering role, even if you've done the work.
Look up prevailing wages before salary negotiations
Run your job title and work location through the OFLC Wage Search before you get an offer. Your employer must certify at least the Level I prevailing wage on the LCA, so knowing that floor prevents you from negotiating yourself into a filing problem.
Find employers with active E-3 LCA filing history
Search Migrate Mate to filter for employers who have certified LCAs for your occupation. Prior filings signal that the HR and legal teams already understand the process, which dramatically shortens the time between offer and your consulate appointment.
Ask your employer to file the LCA before your interview date
The DOL must certify the LCA before you can present it at the consulate. Confirm with your hiring manager that legal counsel is engaged and the LCA is filed at least three weeks before your scheduled appointment to avoid delays.
Check whether your employer is enrolled in E-Verify
If you want a STEM OPT extension later and transition employers, your new employer must be enrolled in E-Verify. Asking about E-Verify enrollment during the offer stage saves a forced employer switch before your first renewal.
Prepare a clear nonimmigrant intent statement for the consulate
Consular officers at Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth ask entry level applicants to explain ties to Australia. A written summary of your Australian connections, such as family, property, or career ties, reduces the risk of a 214(b) refusal on your first attempt.

Find E-3 Visa JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Can I get an E-3 visa for my first job out of university?
Yes. The E-3 has no minimum work experience requirement. What matters is that your role qualifies as a specialty occupation and your degree is in a field directly related to that role. Many Australian graduates secure E-3 sponsorship for their first professional position. Migrate Mate lists employers who have filed LCAs for entry level specialty occupation roles across tech, finance, engineering, and healthcare.
How do I know if an employer will sponsor an E-3 at the entry level?
Check whether the employer has previously certified Labor Condition Applications with the DOL for your job title and level. Employers with existing LCA filings have already cleared the internal approval process and understand their obligations. Many smaller firms that haven't sponsored before are still eligible but may need guidance from an immigration attorney before they commit to a first-time filing.
What happens if my degree field doesn't exactly match the job title?
The DOL and consular officer assess whether there is a logical connection between your field of study and the specialty occupation. A computer science degree supporting a data analyst role is generally accepted. A degree in communications supporting a software developer role is far harder to justify. If the match is indirect, your employer's attorney may need to document the connection through a detailed job description and your academic transcripts.
How long does the E-3 process take from job offer to starting work?
Most applicants complete the process in four to eight weeks. The DOL typically certifies the LCA within seven business days of a complete filing. Consulate appointment availability is the main variable: Sydney and Perth tend to have shorter wait times than Melbourne during peak periods. Your employer needs to have the LCA certified before you book your visa interview, so the timeline depends heavily on how quickly they engage their legal team.
Is the E-3 visa annual cap a real concern for entry level applicants?
In practice, no. USCIS allocates 10,500 E-3 visas per fiscal year, and that cap has never been reached. Unlike the H-1B, there is no lottery and no registration deadline. You can apply year-round as long as you have a qualifying job offer and a certified LCA. The cap is a statutory limit that exists on paper but has not created a backlog in the program's history.
