DEPARTMENT SUMMARY
The Ohio University Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Events Coordinator.
The Events Coordinator seamlessly plans and manages library events to promote the value of the Libraries to students, staff, campus leadership, alumni, and to the community and other external stakeholders. Events include ongoing series with nationally recognized speakers, University donors and VIPs; as well as special celebrations and receptions.
The position oversees the planning and promotion of Libraries’ events, ensuring that they are professional, engaging, and smoothly executed so as to enhance the Libraries’ reputation.
Event audiences range from students to donors, requiring the ability to discern audience-appropriate event design. The Events Coordinator position requires excellent judgment, communication and organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize and manage in a multi-task environment.
This position manages and resolves complex and ambiguous issues and works on both strategic and operational challenges, addressing problems that require advanced knowledge and experience in the area of event management. The Events Coordinator is expected to take on leadership roles in relevant projects or initiatives.
PRIMARY EVENTS DUTIES:

Oversee the planning and promotion of Libraries’ events, ensuring that they are professional, engaging, and smoothly executed so as to enhance the Libraries’ reputation. This includes careful coordination with other campus units (Event Services, Campus Catering, Printing Services) and local community partners.

Manage logistics such as facilities, concessions, caterers, vendors, event communications, and technical support for events. Work with speakers, vendors, and staff to ensure successful event execution. Manage communications across the event team, providing smooth and seamless event experiences.
ABOUT THE OHIO UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES
The Ohio University Libraries system consists of the Alden Library, the Music and Dance Library, the Hwa-Wei Lee Library Annex, as well as five regional campus libraries. With a staff of more than 75 FTE, the Libraries has more than 2.7 million volumes in its collection and has a total annual budget of over $12 million. The Libraries also hosts the Ohio University Press, an award-winning publisher of books about Africa, Appalachia, Southeast Asia, and the Midwest.

POSITION PROFILE
Plans and organizes campus events. Manages logistics such as facilities, tickets, concessions, caterers, vendors, event communications, and technical support for events. Works with speakers, vendors, and staff to ensure successful event execution. Manages communications across the event team, providing smooth and seamless event experiences.
LEVEL SUMMARY
Provides professional expertise to the University community. Serves as a resource and guide to others in the department and/or university. Completes operational tasks essential for the daily functioning of the University. Additionally, contributes to larger projects or initiatives that align with department or University goals, often collaborating across teams.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
May assist in mentoring or training new employees.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES
No budgetary responsibility. May be responsible for validating transactions.
PROBLEM SOLVING
Handles a variety of problems with some independence.
INDEPENDENCE OF ACTION
Some supervision; able to work independently on routine tasks.
COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION
Collaborates with team members and shares knowledge.
Physical Requirements
This role is primarily desk-based and involves extensive use of desktop computers. Occasionally, the job may require travel to attend meetings and programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 3-5 years of related professional experience, or equivalent education and experience.

PAY RATE
The target salary for this position is $24.92 to $28.41 an hour and is commensurate with the selected candidate’s education and experience while considering internal equity.
