Facilities Maintenance Technician Jobs in Vermont: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a facilities maintenance technician in Vermont?
Most facilities maintenance technicians in Vermont enter through a vocational or technical education program, a community college certificate, or an apprenticeship in a skilled trade such as electrical, HVAC, or plumbing. Vermont has its own licensing board for electricians and plumbers through the Vermont Division of Fire Safety, and roles that involve those systems often require the relevant state license or supervision by a licensed tradesperson. Employers also value completion of programs at Vermont Technical College or Community College of Vermont.
Which companies hire facilities maintenance technicians in Vermont?
Vermont facilities maintenance technician roles are posted by Walmart, Heritage Aviation, and Stonewall Kitchen and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Vermont's largest healthcare systems, ski resorts, state government agencies, and university campuses are among the most consistent sources of full-time facilities maintenance technician openings across the state.
Which Vermont cities have the most facilities maintenance technician jobs?
Berlin, Milton, and Rutland are the Vermont cities with the most facilities maintenance technician openings, reflecting the concentration of large hospitals, state government buildings, university campuses, and manufacturing plants in those areas. Burlington leads because of its density of major employers and its role as the state's commercial and medical hub, while Montpelier's openings are largely driven by state government and administrative facilities.
Are there remote facilities maintenance technician jobs in Vermont?
Yes, but they're rare. Facilities maintenance technician work is inherently hands-on and tied to physical buildings, so most openings require on-site presence. About 0% of facilities maintenance technician openings tied to Vermont are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those tend to cover coordination, scheduling, or facilities management oversight functions rather than direct maintenance work.
How can I get hired as a facilities maintenance technician in Vermont with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a maintenance helper, custodial technician, or groundskeeper role at a large Vermont institution such as the University of Vermont, a Vermont State Colleges campus, or a major healthcare facility, then moving into maintenance work as skills develop. Vermont Technical College and the Community College of Vermont offer short-term trades certificates that give candidates an edge. Completing a registered apprenticeship through Vermont's Division of Apprenticeship and Training is another concrete route into the field without prior professional experience.
Where can I find and apply to facilities maintenance technician jobs in Vermont?
You can find and apply to facilities maintenance technician jobs in Vermont on Migrate Mate, which lists current Vermont openings from employers across the state. Find roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly to the employers posting them.
