Financial Consultant Jobs in Iowa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a financial consultant in Iowa?
Most financial consultants in Iowa begin with a bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or accounting, then pass FINRA licensing exams required for their intended work. Advisers who manage investment accounts must register with the Iowa Insurance Division as an investment adviser representative, typically by passing the Series 65 exam. Pursuing a CFP designation strengthens candidacy considerably, and many employers expect licensure before or shortly after hiring.
Which companies hire financial consultants in Iowa?
Iowa financial consultant roles are posted by RSM, TIAA, and Wells Fargo and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Des Moines in particular draws consistent demand given its role as a national insurance and financial services hub.
Which Iowa cities have the most financial consultant jobs?
Dubuque, Burlington, and Coralville have the most financial consultant openings in Iowa. Des Moines dominates because it is home to major insurance carriers, regional banks, and wealth management firms, while Cedar Rapids and Davenport benefit from mid-size financial institutions and a strong commercial business base that keeps steady demand for advisory and planning professionals.
Are there remote financial consultant jobs in Iowa?
Yes, and more than many fields, since financial planning and investment advisory work is largely desk-based and client-facing interactions can often happen virtually. About 100% of financial consultant openings tied to Iowa are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly the industry has adopted flexible arrangements. Portfolio review, financial planning, and client onboarding roles tend to be the most remote-eligible.
How can I get hired as a financial consultant in Iowa with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a client associate or financial planning associate role at a bank, credit union, or independent advisory firm. Principal Financial Group and Wells Fargo both run structured rotational and development programs in Des Moines aimed at new graduates. Earning a Series 65 license before applying significantly improves candidacy, and candidates who come from banking, accounting, or customer relationship roles often move in laterally without direct financial planning experience.
Where can I find and apply to financial consultant jobs in Iowa?
You can find and apply to financial consultant jobs in Iowa on Migrate Mate, which lists current Iowa openings across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
