Financial Planning Analysis Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a financial planning analysis in Illinois?
Most Illinois employers require a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field as the foundation for an FP&A career. Illinois does not issue a state-specific license for FP&A professionals, but earning the Chartered Financial Analyst designation or passing the CPA exam through the Illinois Board of Examiners significantly strengthens candidacy. Most hiring paths run through corporate finance departments in Chicago-area companies, where analysts build skills in budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting before advancing.
How much do financial planning analysises make in Illinois?
Financial planning analysises in Illinois earn a median of about $101,180 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $64,700 for the lowest 10% to over $166,090 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire financial planning analysiss in Illinois?
Employers hiring financial planning analysiss in Illinois right now include Google, CVS Health, and HealthBridge Financial, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's deep concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters and major healthcare and insurance organizations means FP&A demand stays broad across industries and seniority levels.
Which Illinois cities have the most financial planning analysis jobs?
Chicago, Northbrook, and Warrenville have the most financial planning analysis openings in Illinois. Chicago drives the bulk of demand thanks to its concentration of corporate headquarters, financial services firms, and healthcare systems, while suburban corridors like Schaumburg and Naperville add significant volume from large employers such as Zurich North America and Navistar that are headquartered in the collar counties.
Are there remote financial planning analysis jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most fields. Financial planning analysis is a desk-based, data-driven role that translates well to remote work. About 71% of financial planning analysis openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the broader shift in corporate finance toward flexible arrangements. Forecasting, modeling, and reporting work is most commonly done remotely, while roles involving close partnership with operations or executive leadership tend to require more in-office presence.
How can I get hired as a financial planning analysis in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a financial analyst or junior analyst role within a large Illinois corporation's finance rotational program. Companies such as Abbott Laboratories, Exelon, and United Airlines run structured rotational programs that place new graduates across planning, reporting, and operations finance. Candidates coming from accounting, auditing, or business intelligence roles often move laterally into FP&A. Building proficiency in Excel financial modeling and earning a CPA or beginning a CFA candidacy through the Illinois CPA Society's resources gives applicants a concrete edge over other entry-level candidates.
