ABOUT THE ROLE
HKS Financial Partners is a comprehensive financial planning and wealth management firm serving individuals, families and business owners across six planning areas — Foundations, Risk, Wealth, Tax, Independence and Legacy. We're adding a licensed Insurance Specialist to be the person our advisors and clients turn to for anything involving life, disability, long-term care, fixed-annuity and property & casualty coverage.
This is a specialist seat, not a sales seat and not a planning seat. Our advisors sell and make the recommendation; complex insurance planning sits with our wealth strategist. You make sure every policy is cleanly placed, every client question is answered promptly and correctly, every illustration is ready when it's needed, and every in-force policy is looked after. You'll know every product we use and what it's for, and you'll have the authority to answer routine questions and run routine transactions on your own.
The role reports to the Managing Partner, works daily with advisors on both of our client teams, and takes over servicing of our existing insurance and annuity book from a long-tenured colleague over a planned 12–18 month transition. You will be introduced to those clients personally and will document each process as it moves to you. Securities registration is not required.
- Produce illustrations, in-force ledgers and carrier/product comparisons at the advisor's direction — typically same or next day — and know every product we use well enough to explain what it does and why a client has it.
- Own new business from application to placement — life, disability, long-term care and fixed annuities: forms, exams and records, underwriting requirements, replacement documentation, delivery and first premium. Keep every case moving with a status update at least every five business days.
- Be the single point of contact for insurance and annuity questions from any HKS client, and answer the routine ones yourself. Run routine transactions for service-only clients — guaranteed-insurability and purchase-option elections, term conversions, dividend and loan changes, contract maturities — and route anything that becomes advice to the advisor.
- Service the in-force book: beneficiary, ownership and premium changes; loans, withdrawals and conversions; annuity renewals, RMDs and maturities; employee-benefit plan administration. Standard: questions answered within one business day, service requests completed within five.
- Care for the book proactively: produce a quarterly in-force report and work it — conversion deadlines, insurability and coverage-increase windows, annuity renewals, lapse-pending policies — bringing opportunities to the advisor.
- Support the team: coverage summaries for annual client reviews, product and underwriting updates for advisors, coordination of property & casualty items through our partner agency, and maintaining the firm's insurance procedures and forms.
- Keep everything compliant and documented — licenses and appointments, carrier and broker-dealer procedures, complete CRM records.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Active Life, Accident & Health license, or the ability to obtain it within 90 days. Property & Casualty license, or the ability to obtain it within six months (we sponsor both).
- Two or more years in insurance case design, new-business processing or policy servicing — at a carrier, agency, broker-dealer or advisory firm. Fixed-annuity experience strongly preferred.
- Solid working knowledge of life, disability, LTC and fixed-annuity products and riders, and the ability to read an in-force illustration and explain it to a client in plain language.
- Meticulous follow-through: you like owning a process end to end, keeping a tracker current, and writing down how things work.
- Clear, warm communication with clients, advisors and carriers; comfortable in a client meeting.
- Interest in growing — toward a designation (CLU, ChFC, RICP) and toward leading the insurance function over time.
COMPENSATION, GROWTH AND BENEFITS
Base salary of $60,000 – $65,000 depending on experience and licensing, plus incentive compensation tied to the insurance book you service and place and to service quality, and participation in the firm's profit-share pool. Base increases when the second license is added and with a completed designation.
This role is built to grow. The path runs from Insurance Specialist to Senior Insurance Specialist (case design within our written standards, policy reviews, a larger incentive share) and on to Director of Insurance as the firm's insurance and annuity business expands. The milestones are written down and we'll walk through them with you.
- 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off; 20 days of PTO plus paid holidays
- Health insurance with multiple plan options; 401(k) with company contribution
- Life & Health and P&C licensing, continuing-education and designation support; carrier and home-office training
- Hybrid and flexible work arrangements based on role and business needs

Insurance Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a insurance in Illinois?
To work in insurance in Illinois, most client-facing and sales roles require a license issued by the Illinois Department of Insurance. Candidates must complete pre-licensing education approved by the state, pass the relevant exam for their line of authority such as property and casualty or life and health, and submit a licensing application. A bachelor's degree in business, finance, or risk management strengthens candidacy for underwriting and claims roles that do not require a license.
Which companies hire insurances in Illinois?
Companies currently hiring insurances in Illinois include Farmers Insurance, Freeway Insurance Services America, and COUNTRY Financial, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois is home to the headquarters of major carriers including Allstate, CNA Financial, and Zurich North America, which maintain large local workforces and hire across underwriting, claims, actuarial, and agency operations year-round.
Which Illinois cities have the most insurance jobs?
Chicago, Springfield, and Illinois have the most insurance job openings in Illinois. Chicago dominates because it serves as the headquarters city for several national carriers and the regional hub for commercial lines, while Naperville and Peoria draw openings from large regional insurers, captive agencies, and corporate risk management departments tied to Illinois's manufacturing and healthcare sectors.
Are there remote insurance jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than many fields. About 62% of insurance openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the work in underwriting, claims review, and policy analysis can be done independently of a physical office. Roles that involve client-facing sales, in-person inspections, or agency management are far more likely to require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a insurance in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a licensed customer service representative or claims support role at an Illinois-based carrier or independent agency, where employers hire candidates who have completed pre-licensing coursework through the Illinois Department of Insurance. Large Illinois carriers like Allstate and CNA Financial run structured associate and training programs that build underwriting or claims skills from the ground up. Passing a property and casualty or life and health licensing exam before applying gives candidates a clear edge over unlicensed peers.
Where can I find and apply to insurance jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to insurance jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from Illinois employers. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and credentials, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
