Financial Professional Jobs in Minnesota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a financial professional in Minnesota?
Most financial professional roles in Minnesota require passing FINRA licensing exams, most commonly the Series 7 and Series 66, before you can give investment advice or sell securities. Registration is administered through FINRA and overseen at the state level by the Minnesota Department of Commerce. A bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or business is the standard education baseline, and many employers expect you to sit for licensing exams within the first few months of hire.
Which companies hire financial professionals in Minnesota?
Minnesota financial professional roles are posted by New York Life, Minnesota State, and Cetera Financial and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Minnesota's concentration of Fortune 500 financial firms, regional banks, and insurance carriers means openings surface across a wide range of employer sizes and specialties throughout the year.
Which Minnesota cities have the most financial professional jobs?
Moorhead, Alexandria, and Minneapolis have the most financial professional openings in Minnesota. The Twin Cities dominate because that metro is home to major insurance headquarters, national banks, and asset management firms, while Rochester draws openings tied to corporate finance and benefits roles connected to its large healthcare and technology employer base.
How can I get hired as a financial professional in Minnesota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a financial analyst associate or client service representative role, which large Minnesota employers like Ameriprise Financial, U.S. Bancorp Investments, and Securian Financial regularly fill with new graduates. These firms run structured development programs that include FINRA exam sponsorship. Coming in from a related role in banking, insurance customer service, or accounting also opens the door, and completing even the first level of a CFA or CFP coursework gives candidates a measurable edge in a competitive applicant pool.
Where can I find and apply to financial professional jobs in Minnesota?
You can find and apply to financial professional jobs in Minnesota on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your experience and credentials, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
