Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Business Unit Manager
Translate your credentials into PERM language
PERM requires your degree and experience to match the job description exactly. Get foreign credentials evaluated by a NACES-approved agency and align your resume to the specific educational requirements the employer will list on the ETA-9089.
Target employers with dedicated immigration infrastructure
Business Unit Manager roles are most likely to attract green card sponsorship at mid-to-large companies with in-house HR teams or retained immigration counsel. Organizations already enrolled in E-Verify are further along the compliance path than those who aren't.
Search green card sponsorship history using Migrate Mate
Filter Business Unit Manager roles by employers with active PERM and I-140 filing history using Migrate Mate. This surfaces companies that have sponsored similar management positions before, not just those open to the idea in theory.
Confirm the role meets EB-2 or EB-3 requirements
DOL classifies Business Unit Manager positions under management occupations requiring a four-year degree. Verify with the hiring team whether they intend to file under EB-2 (advanced degree or equivalent) or EB-3, since that affects your priority date and backlog exposure.
Address third-party worksite rules in your offer letter
If your Business Unit Manager role involves overseeing teams across client sites or subsidiaries, USCIS scrutinizes whether the petitioning employer maintains day-to-day control. Get clarity on reporting structures and have these documented before the I-140 is filed.

Find Business Unit Manager JobsBusiness Unit Manager Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Business Unit Manager role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Business Unit Manager positions typically qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers requiring a bachelor's degree, and under EB-2 when the role requires an advanced degree or the employer can demonstrate an equivalent level of expertise. The employer selects the category when filing the PERM application, and that choice affects your priority date and how long you wait for a visa number to become available.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B is a temporary nonimmigrant status capped at 65,000 per year with a lottery, while EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship leads to permanent residency with no annual lottery. The trade-off is time: PERM labor certification, I-140 filing, and priority date waiting can span several years, whereas an approved H-1B lets you start work within months. Many Business Unit Manager candidates hold H-1B status while their employer simultaneously pursues the green card.
What does the PERM process look like for a Business Unit Manager position?
Your employer starts by requesting a prevailing wage determination from DOL using the OFLC Wage Search, then runs a supervised recruitment campaign to document that no qualified U.S. workers applied. Once recruitment is complete, they file the ETA-9089 with DOL. Current PERM processing at the analyst review stage is running well over a year, so expect the full PERM-to-green-card timeline to extend two to five years depending on your country of birth and the visa category.
How can I find Business Unit Manager jobs where employers will actually sponsor a green card?
The most reliable signal is prior PERM and I-140 filing history for similar roles. Migrate Mate lets you filter Business Unit Manager jobs by employers with documented green card sponsorship activity, so you're not guessing based on a job posting that says 'visa sponsorship available.' Targeting companies with a track record of management-level sponsorship saves significant time in your search.
Can I switch employers after my I-140 is approved but before I have a green card?
Yes, under AC21 portability rules you can change employers once your I-140 has been approved and your adjustment of status application has been pending for 180 days or more, provided the new role is in the same or similar occupational classification. For Business Unit Manager candidates, a move to a comparable general or operations management role at a new company typically satisfies the same-or-similar standard, but your new employer should review your situation with immigration counsel before the transfer.
