Commercial Specialist Green Card Jobs
Commercial Specialist roles in trade compliance, export licensing, and contract management qualify for employment-based green card sponsorship under EB-2 or EB-3. Employers file PERM labor certification with DOL before petitioning USCIS, permanently sponsoring you rather than renewing a temporary status every two or three years.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Commercial Specialist
Document your specialized commercial credentials early
PERM requires your employer to prove no qualified U.S. worker is available for your specific role. Gather degree transcripts, export licensing certifications, and contract management credentials now so your employer can define narrowly tailored minimum requirements that reflect your actual background.
Target employers with active government contracts
Federal contractors routinely hire Commercial Specialists for FAR compliance, subcontract administration, and export control work. These employers are already familiar with PERM documentation and often have in-house immigration counsel, which shortens your path from offer to filed petition.
Search green card sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Filter by Commercial Specialist roles to find employers who have a track record of filing employment-based green card petitions. Applying to verified sponsoring employers cuts time spent on roles where the employer has never navigated PERM.
Understand how job duties affect your EB classification
Roles focused on trade policy analysis or international commercial law often satisfy EB-2 advanced-degree requirements, while contract administration or export coordination positions may fall under EB-3. Ask your employer to confirm classification before PERM is filed so your petition isn't revised midway.
Request a prevailing wage determination before accepting an offer
DOL sets the wage your employer must pay throughout the PERM and green card process using the OFLC Wage Search. Confirm your offered salary meets the applicable wage level for Commercial Specialist in your metro area before signing, since a shortfall requires a formal amendment.
Align your I-140 filing with your priority date strategy
Once PERM is certified, USCIS adjudicates the I-140 immigrant petition. For applicants from oversubscribed countries, filing I-140 as early as possible locks in a priority date, which determines your place in the green card queue under the Visa Bulletin.

Find Commercial Specialist JobsCommercial Specialist Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Commercial Specialist roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Both categories are available depending on your specific duties and education. Positions requiring a master's degree or specialized trade law expertise typically qualify under EB-2. Roles requiring a bachelor's degree in business, international relations, or a related field generally fall under EB-3. Your employer finalizes the classification when preparing the PERM labor certification, so it's worth clarifying before the petition is drafted.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for a Commercial Specialist?
Green card sponsorship through PERM leads to permanent residency rather than a renewable temporary status. There is no annual lottery at the EB-3 level, and your employer files PERM with DOL rather than competing in the H-1B cap. The tradeoff is a longer total timeline, often two to four years or more, compared to H-1B approval in a few months, but the outcome is a permanent authorization tied to your employer's petition rather than a status you must renew repeatedly.
How can I find Commercial Specialist employers who already sponsor green cards?
Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for Commercial Specialist openings at employers with employment-based green card filing history. Focusing your applications on these employers avoids the common situation where a company is willing to hire you but has never worked through PERM before, which adds months of internal approvals before any filing begins.
What role does the PERM labor certification play in a Commercial Specialist green card case?
PERM requires your employer to conduct a supervised DOL recruitment process showing no minimally qualified U.S. worker applied for your specific role. For Commercial Specialist positions, the job requirements must match your actual credentials exactly. If DOL audits the case, your employer needs documentation of every recruitment step, so thorough recordkeeping during the advertising period is essential before USCIS ever sees the I-140 petition.
Can my employer sponsor me for a green card while I'm on H-1B status as a Commercial Specialist?
Yes. Many Commercial Specialists begin PERM while maintaining H-1B status, and the two processes run in parallel. Filing PERM does not affect your H-1B authorization, and H-1B extensions beyond the standard six-year limit are available once your I-140 is approved and your priority date meets specific thresholds under AC21 provisions. This overlap is common and well-understood by employers experienced with employment-based sponsorship.
