Green Card Electrical Systems Engineer Jobs
Electrical Systems Engineer roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which requires employers to document recruitment efforts before filing your I-140 petition. Defense contractors, utilities, and aerospace firms regularly sponsor foreign professionals in this discipline for permanent residency.

- Analyze the electrical system to ensure it meets safety-critical design requirements
- Collaborate with systems test engineers to develop a validation test program and review test reports to verify design conformance

- Familiarity with autonomous vehicle sensor and sensor cleaning technologies
- Experience leading multidisciplinary trade studies to conclusion
- Experience with planning, writing, and executing test procedures

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as an Electrical Systems Engineer
Translate your credentials for U.S. employers
If your electrical engineering degree is from a non-U.S. institution, get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved evaluator before applying. USCIS and PERM reviewers rely on these evaluations to confirm your degree meets EB-2 or EB-3 requirements.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Search the DOL OFLC disclosure database for employers who have filed PERM applications for electrical or systems engineering roles. Repeat filers have established internal processes, which shortens the timeline from offer to approved I-140.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Filter your job search by green card sponsorship history rather than sifting through postings that never mention immigration. Migrate Mate surfaces Electrical Systems Engineer roles at employers with verified PERM filing records, so you focus your applications where sponsorship is realistic.
Confirm your role qualifies as a specialty occupation
Review the O*NET profile for Electrical Engineers to verify that your specific duties align with the specialty occupation definition. Job titles vary widely across industries, and roles that blend systems engineering with project management can face PERM scrutiny if the degree requirement isn't clearly tied to the core duties.
Ask about PERM timing during the offer stage
Request clarity on when your employer plans to initiate PERM after your start date. Some companies require 12 months of employment before filing, while others start immediately. Knowing this gap affects your ability to plan concurrent I-485 adjustment of status filing.
Understand how prevailing wage affects your offer
Before accepting an offer, cross-check your proposed salary against the OFLC Wage Search for your SOC code and work location. If your salary falls below the DOL-certified prevailing wage level, your employer must amend the offer before PERM can proceed.
Green Card Electrical Systems Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Electrical Systems Engineer roles typically qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most Electrical Systems Engineer positions qualify under EB-3 as professional roles requiring at least a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field. Roles requiring a master's degree or demonstrating a national interest waiver basis can qualify under EB-2. Your employer's job description and the PERM-certified requirements determine which category applies, so the actual duties and minimum requirements stated in the labor certification matter more than your personal credentials alone.
How is green card sponsorship different from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
Green card sponsorship through PERM is permanent, has no annual lottery, and results in lawful permanent residency rather than a temporary work authorization period. The H-1B visa is a nonimmigrant status capped at 85,000 visas annually with a lottery. PERM requires your employer to conduct a formal recruitment process and obtain DOL certification before filing an I-140, making the overall timeline longer, typically two to four years for most countries, but the outcome is permanent and not subject to renewal cycles.
How do I find Electrical Systems Engineer employers who actively sponsor green cards?
Migrate Mate lets you search for Electrical Systems Engineer roles filtered by employers with documented PERM filing history, so you can prioritize applications at companies that have already sponsored workers in similar roles. Defense contractors, power utilities, aerospace manufacturers, and large infrastructure firms are among the most active sponsors for this occupation, based on DOL OFLC disclosure data.
Can my employer start the PERM process before I have H-1B status?
Yes. PERM is an employer-driven process tied to a job offer, not your current visa status. Your employer can initiate PERM labor certification while you hold F-1 OPT, H-1B, L-1 visa, or another authorized status. What matters is that you'll be eligible to work in the role when the green card is approved, and that your qualifications match the certified PERM requirements at the time of filing.
What happens to my green card case if I change employers before my I-485 is approved?
If your I-140 has been approved for 180 days or more and your I-485 has been pending for at least 180 days, you may be eligible to port your priority date to a new employer in the same or similar occupational classification under AC21 portability rules. Electrical Systems Engineer roles generally port well to similar engineering positions, but your new employer's role must substantially match the original PERM job duties. Consult an immigration attorney before making the switch.
