Green Card Physician Assistant Jobs
Physician Assistant roles qualify for green card sponsorship under EB-2 or EB-3, depending on your credentials and the employer's filing approach. PERM labor certification requires your employer to document that no qualified U.S. worker is available before sponsoring you for permanent residency. Clinical settings with persistent PA staffing gaps are your strongest targets.

Verify your NCCPA certification supports EB-2 filing
EB-2 requires a master's degree or the equivalent. A completed PA program plus a Bachelor of Science typically satisfies this, but your employer's attorney will assess whether your credentials meet the advanced-degree standard before PERM is filed.
Target health systems with established PERM infrastructure
Large hospital networks and federally qualified health centers sponsor PAs regularly and already have immigration counsel on retainer. A system filing PERM for multiple roles each year moves faster than an employer doing it for the first time.
Search green-card-sponsoring PA jobs on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter PA roles by employers with active green card sponsorship history. This cuts out the guesswork of cold-applying to practices that have never navigated PERM and avoids early-stage delays caused by unprepared sponsors.
Get a prevailing wage determination before negotiating your offer
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your SOC code and location before PERM is certified. Run your role through the OFLC Wage Search to know the wage floor in advance so your offer letter is PERM-ready from day one.
Clarify sponsorship scope during the offer stage
Ask directly whether the employer will cover PERM, I-140, and adjustment of status fees, and whether they require a stay agreement. PAs have leverage in shortage markets, and defining sponsorship terms before signing protects you if the employer changes ownership.
Understand how EB-3 priority dates affect your timeline
Most PA candidates from oversubscribed countries file under EB-3 skilled worker. Your priority date is set when PERM is filed, not when I-140 is approved. Check the USCIS Visa Bulletin monthly to track when your date becomes current for adjustment of status.
Green Card Physician Assistant: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Physician Assistant roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
PA roles can qualify under either category. EB-2 applies when the position requires a master's degree or equivalent and your credentials meet that standard. EB-3 covers skilled workers and professionals, making it the more common path for PAs whose programs confer a bachelor's or entry-level master's. Your employer's immigration attorney determines which category fits based on the job requirements and your academic background.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for Physician Assistants?
Green card sponsorship through PERM leads to permanent residency, not a temporary status with a fixed expiration. Unlike H-1B visa, there is no annual lottery for EB-3 and no cap to worry about at the filing stage. The tradeoff is time: PERM labor certification, I-140 approval, and adjustment of status can take two to four years or more depending on your country of birth and the priority date backlog tracked by USCIS.
What is the PERM process, and what does it require from a PA employer?
PERM is the DOL's Program Electronic Review Management system. Your employer must conduct a supervised recruitment campaign to show no minimally qualified U.S. worker applied for the role. The job duties and minimum requirements in the PERM application must match your actual position exactly. Any mismatch between the posted job and your day-to-day responsibilities can trigger an audit and delay your green card by a year or more.
How do I find Physician Assistant jobs where the employer will sponsor a green card?
Search Migrate Mate to filter PA openings by employers with documented green card sponsorship history. Many PA positions list visa sponsorship vaguely or not at all, so targeting employers who have completed PERM filings before significantly reduces the risk of investing months in a job search with an employer who ultimately declines to file. Prioritize health systems and multi-site clinical groups over solo or small group practices.
Can a PA switch employers after green card sponsorship has started?
Yes, under AC21 portability rules, you can change employers after your I-140 has been approved and your adjustment of status application has been pending for 180 days or more. The new position must be in the same or a similar occupational classification. Changing employers before those thresholds are met restarts the sponsorship process and can forfeit your priority date if the original I-140 is withdrawn.
