Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Security Sales Engineer
Document your technical certifications before applying
PERM requires proof that your qualifications meet the job's minimum requirements. Gather vendor certifications (CISSP, CEH, CCSP), degree transcripts, and employer letters confirming your security architecture or presales experience before you start outreach.
Target employers with PERM filing history
Search OFLC disclosure data for companies that have filed PERM applications under SOC codes tied to sales engineering or information security. Employers with prior filings have already navigated the process and are far less likely to stall on sponsorship.
Use Migrate Mate to find green card sponsoring roles
Search Migrate Mate to filter Security Sales Engineer openings by employers with active green card sponsorship history. This surfaces roles where EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship is a known employer capability, not just a recruiter promise.
Confirm job duties match PERM's prevailing wage tier
Use the OFLC Wage Search to verify that the role's posted salary meets the Level II or Level III prevailing wage for your work location. A mismatch between actual pay and the certified wage level is a common PERM denial trigger.
Negotiate sponsorship terms before accepting an offer
Ask whether the employer will cover PERM legal fees, who pays if the process is abandoned mid-filing, and whether an I-140 can be filed concurrently. Getting these terms in writing protects you if the employer changes priorities after the recruitment phase.
Understand how your nationality affects EB-3 wait times
EB-3 has no annual cap per se, but per-country limits create backlogs for nationals of India and China. Check the USCIS Visa Bulletin before committing to a sponsorship timeline so you can factor in realistic green card wait periods.
Green Card Security Sales Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Security Sales Engineer role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Security Sales Engineer roles typically qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers requiring a bachelor's degree in computer science, information security, or a related field, plus specialized presales experience. EB-2 applies if the position requires an advanced degree or if the employer can demonstrate the role demands graduate-level expertise in security architecture or solutions design. The O*NET profile for this occupation supports a specialty occupation argument under either category.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B visa is a temporary work visa subject to an annual lottery with an 85,000-slot cap, which means selection is never guaranteed. PERM-based green card sponsorship targets permanent residency and has no lottery. The trade-off is timeline: PERM recruitment and DOL certification alone can take six to twelve months before USCIS even reviews the I-140 petition, but the outcome is lawful permanent residency, not a visa that expires and requires renewal.
What does the PERM recruitment process look like for a Security Sales Engineer position?
The employer must run a DOL-mandated recruitment campaign, typically including print ads, job postings, and internal notices, to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available for the specific role. The job description filed with PERM must match actual duties and cannot require skills beyond what the employer genuinely needs. Any mismatch between the posted role and the sponsored candidate's background is a common audit trigger.
How can I find Security Sales Engineer jobs that offer green card sponsorship?
Standard job boards rarely filter by sponsorship type, so you'll spend significant time on roles where sponsorship isn't available or isn't specified. Migrate Mate lets you search Security Sales Engineer openings by employers with verified green card sponsorship history, so you're targeting companies that have already run PERM filings for similar roles rather than guessing from job descriptions.
Can my employer start the green card process while I'm on H-1B status?
Yes. Employers routinely file PERM while you're working on H-1B. Once the I-140 is approved and your priority date is current, you file I-485 to adjust status without leaving the U.S. Under AC21 portability rules, you can change employers after the I-485 has been pending for 180 days without losing your place in line, provided the new role is in the same or similar occupational classification. USCIS evaluates portability claims case by case.
