Map your degree to the SOC code
Agent Development roles can map to several SOC codes depending on whether the work is software, ML, or systems-focused. Pull the O*NET profile for your target title and confirm your degree field aligns before applying, mismatches trigger RFEs.
Target employers with cap-exempt pathways
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and certain government-affiliated entities can file H-1B petitions outside the annual cap. If you're mid-job-search in October, these employers can start you immediately without waiting for the next lottery cycle.
Search verified H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Filter Agent Development jobs by employers with active LCA filing history on Migrate Mate. You'll see which companies have sponsored this role before, so you're not guessing which hiring managers will engage with an H-1B applicant.
Request the LCA wage level in writing during negotiation
DOL requires employers to certify a prevailing wage tier on the LCA. Ask which wage level they're filing at before you accept an offer. Level I filings on senior Agent Development roles are a common RFE trigger and signal underpayment risk.
Document proprietary systems knowledge as specialty occupation evidence
Agent Development work often involves domain-specific frameworks that generalist reviewers won't recognize. Compile employer letters, architecture diagrams, or publications that show the role requires specialized, degree-level expertise, this strengthens the specialty occupation case in the I-129.

Find Agent Development JobsAgent Development H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Agent Development qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, provided the role requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline. The employer must document that the position normally requires this level of education. Roles that accept any degree in any field, or substitute experience freely, face higher RFE rates from USCIS.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Agent Development roles?
Technology companies building AI products, financial services firms automating workflows, and enterprise software vendors are the most consistent sponsors for this role type. On Migrate Mate, you can filter Agent Development jobs specifically by employers with verified LCA filing history, which shows real sponsorship activity rather than stated policy.
How does the H-1B lottery affect my timeline for an Agent Development job?
USCIS accepts H-1B registrations in March each year for an October 1 start date. If you're selected, your employer files the full petition after selection. Cap-exempt employers, including universities and qualifying nonprofits, can file outside this window. Planning your offer and onboarding timeline around the March registration and October effective date is essential for cap-subject employers.
Can I change Agent Development employers on an existing H-1B?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can start with a new employer as soon as the new H-1B transfer petition is filed, as long as your previous status was maintained. The new employer must file a fresh I-129 and a new LCA certified at the prevailing wage for your new role's location and SOC code.
What wage documentation does the employer need to file an H-1B for an Agent Development role?
The employer must file an LCA with DOL certifying that your offered wage meets or exceeds the prevailing wage for the occupational classification and geographic area. You can verify the applicable prevailing wage before negotiating by using the OFLC Wage Search tool. The LCA must be certified before USCIS will accept the I-129 petition.
