Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Technical Solutions Engineer
Verify your degree aligns with TSE requirements
H-1B approval depends on your degree field matching the role's technical requirements. Pull the O*NET profile for Technical Solutions Engineer to confirm which degree fields USCIS treats as directly related before you apply.
Target employers with certified LCA history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Technical Solutions Engineer roles by employers who have filed and certified Labor Condition Applications, so you're only pursuing companies that have already committed to H-1B sponsorship in this role category.
Check prevailing wage levels before negotiating
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your work location. Run the OFLC Wage Search for SOC code 15-1299 before salary discussions so you know the floor your offer must clear.
Ask about premium processing during offer stage
USCIS premium processing reduces the I-129 adjudication window to 15 business days. For TSE roles with hard start dates tied to product launches or client onboarding, confirm during the offer stage whether your employer will elect premium processing.
Document your pre-sales and technical credentials carefully
USCIS scrutinizes TSE petitions when job duties span sales and engineering. Your offer letter and support letter should explicitly describe hands-on technical responsibilities, not customer-facing duties, to anchor the specialty occupation argument.
Time your application around the cap and grace period
The H-1B cap opens each April 1 for an October 1 start. If you're transitioning from OPT or another status, your 60-day grace period after your current role ends must overlap with your new employer's petition timeline.
H-1B Visa Technical Solutions Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Technical Solutions Engineer role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field such as computer science, electrical engineering, or information systems. The key is that the employer's job description must make the degree a genuine requirement, not a preference. Generic listings that accept any bachelor's degree in any field can weaken the specialty occupation argument, so confirm the job description is specific before your employer files.
How do I find employers who actively sponsor H-1B visas for Technical Solutions Engineer roles?
Search Migrate Mate for Technical Solutions Engineer openings filtered by employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history. This removes companies that list roles without any demonstrated sponsorship track record, saving you from investing in applications where sponsorship approval is uncertain.
What happens to my H-1B status if my TSE role shifts significantly after I'm approved?
A material change in job duties, work location, or employer can require an amended H-1B petition before the change takes effect. If your TSE role expands into a different SOC classification or moves you to a new client site not covered by the original LCA, your employer must file an amended I-129 with a new certified LCA to keep your status valid.
Can I work on client sites as a Technical Solutions Engineer on H-1B status?
Yes, but each client site must be covered by a valid LCA that lists that work location. If your employer places you at a client location not named in the original LCA, they need to file a new or amended LCA before you start working there. This is a common compliance gap in consulting-model TSE roles that both you and your employer need to manage proactively.
What degree fields does USCIS accept for Technical Solutions Engineer H-1B petitions?
USCIS generally accepts degrees in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, information systems, and closely related technical disciplines. A degree in business or communications is unlikely to support a TSE petition unless supplemented by a graduate technical degree or substantial coursework in a qualifying field. The O*NET profile for this occupation lists the typical education requirements USCIS adjudicators reference when evaluating petitions.
