Pull your SOC code before applying
Bilingual Sales Representatives typically fall under SOC 41-3099 or 41-4012. Confirm which code your target employer uses on their LCA filings, since mismatched classifications can trigger RFEs about specialty occupation eligibility.
Verify prevailing wage for your language market
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for your specific SOC code and metro area. Employers serving niche language markets often underprice roles, so know the Level I to Level IV wage range before negotiations.
Search LCA history by industry on Migrate Mate
Filter by occupation code and employer to see which companies have actively certified LCAs for bilingual sales roles. This tells you which employers already understand the H-1B process for your job category.
Document language proficiency as a specialty qualification
Gather formal credentials proving fluency, such as DELE, HSK, or DELF certificates. USCIS adjudicators scrutinize bilingual roles closely, so written evidence that language skills are a specialized requirement strengthens the specialty occupation argument.
Clarify whether the role is cap-exempt or cap-subject
Bilingual sales roles at universities, nonprofits, or government research entities can be cap-exempt, bypassing the lottery entirely. Ask HR directly whether the entity qualifies, since cap-exempt sponsorship allows filing at any time of year.

Find Bilingual Sales Representative JobsBilingual Sales Representative H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Bilingual Sales Representative role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It can, but the employer must demonstrate the role normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as business, marketing, or international relations. Roles that accept any degree or list a degree as preferred rather than required face higher RFE risk. O*NET classifies most sales representative positions at Job Zone 3 to 4, which supports the specialty occupation argument when the job description is drafted carefully.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas most consistently for bilingual sales roles?
Financial services, healthcare technology, enterprise software, and logistics companies that serve Spanish, Mandarin, or Portuguese-speaking client bases file LCAs for bilingual sales positions regularly. These employers have established H-1B processes and compliance teams familiar with the documentation needed. You can browse companies with verified LCA filing history for this occupation on Migrate Mate before you apply.
How does the H-1B prevailing wage requirement affect bilingual sales compensation?
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for the applicable SOC code and work location, regardless of what they'd pay a non-sponsored candidate. For bilingual sales roles, wages vary significantly by metro area and Level designation. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the wage floor before your offer conversation so you understand the minimum your employer is legally required to meet.
Can I switch to a different employer's H-1B sponsorship mid-year if my current job ends?
Yes. Under H-1B portability, you can begin working for a new employer as soon as they file an H-1B transfer petition, without waiting for approval, as long as you've been in valid H-1B status and the new petition is filed in a non-frivolous manner. You have a 60-day grace period after your employment ends to find a new sponsor. Act quickly, since any gap beyond 60 days jeopardizes your status.
What documentation strengthens an H-1B petition for a bilingual sales position?
A detailed job description that specifies why a degree in a particular field is required, not just preferred, is the foundation. Formal language proficiency certificates such as DELE, HSK, or DELF certificates add weight when the role requires a specific language. Your employer's attorney should also document the company's history of hiring degreed professionals in this role, since USCIS may issue an RFE if the specialty occupation connection is not explicit.
