Verify your degree supports specialty occupation
USCIS requires your degree field to directly relate to Clinical Consultant duties. A health informatics, nursing, pharmacy, or clinical science degree strengthens your case. A general business degree alone can trigger an RFE if your job duties aren't clearly clinical.
Search LCA filings for active sponsors
Pull DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data to identify which employers have filed for Clinical Consultant roles specifically. Use Migrate Mate to filter by job title and location so you're targeting companies with a verified H-1B filing history for this role.
Target consulting firms with dedicated immigration counsel
Healthcare IT and life sciences consultancies that deploy staff to client sites often have established H-1B pipelines. Ask recruiters directly whether the firm has filed for Clinical Consultant roles before and whether they use in-house or outside immigration counsel.
Confirm the prevailing wage tier before accepting an offer
Run your job title and work location through the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating compensation. Your employer's LCA must certify wages at the correct DOL wage level for your experience, and mismatches between offer letters and LCA filings delay certification.
Document client-site work arrangements before filing
Clinical Consultants frequently work at client hospitals or health systems, not the petitioning employer's address. USCIS scrutinizes third-party placement arrangements, so your employer needs itineraries or master service agreements showing bona fide control over your day-to-day work.
Use O*NET to align your job description with USCIS standards
Pull the Clinical Consultant occupation profile from O*NET to confirm the listed tasks, knowledge requirements, and education benchmarks. Your job offer letter and I-129 petition should mirror this language to establish specialty occupation eligibility clearly.

Find Clinical Consultant JobsClinical Consultant H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Clinical Consultant role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, provided the position genuinely requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific clinical or health sciences field. Job duties centered on clinical workflow optimization, EHR implementation, or patient care protocol design typically satisfy USCIS specialty occupation criteria. Roles where a degree in any field is accepted risk an RFE, so the job description must specify the required discipline.
Which types of employers most commonly sponsor H-1B visas for Clinical Consultant roles?
Healthcare IT vendors, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, management consulting firms with life sciences practices, and hospital systems with large transformation programs are the most active sponsors. You can find employers with verified H-1B filing history for this title on Migrate Mate, which surfaces DOL LCA data by job title and location.
How does working at a client site affect my H-1B petition as a Clinical Consultant?
USCIS applies extra scrutiny to consulting arrangements where you're placed at a third-party hospital or health system. Your petitioning employer must demonstrate it controls your work assignments and that a bona fide employer-employee relationship exists. Supporting documents like master service agreements, statements of work, and client engagement letters are typically required alongside the I-129 petition.
Can I switch Clinical Consultant employers on an H-1B without losing my status?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules established by AC21, you can start working for a new employer as soon as they file a new I-129 petition on your behalf, as long as your current H-1B has been approved for at least 180 days. You don't need to wait for the new petition to be approved before starting, which is a meaningful protection for consultants moving between firms.
What prevailing wage level should I expect for a Clinical Consultant H-1B?
That depends on your experience and location. DOL assigns wage levels I through IV based on qualifications, with Level I for entry-level and Level IV for fully independent senior roles. Your employer must certify wages at the correct level on the LCA before filing. Cross-check your offer against the OFLC Wage Search using your specific job title and worksite ZIP code to verify the LCA is accurate before you sign anything.
