Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Construction Site Manager
Verify your degree meets specialty occupation
USCIS requires a directly related bachelor's degree for H-1B approval. A degree in construction management, civil engineering, or architecture strengthens your petition. A general business or unrelated degree often triggers an RFE for this role.
Check prevailing wage before salary negotiations
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for Construction Site Manager by location before you negotiate. Your offer must meet or exceed the DOL wage level, and underpaying is grounds for petition denial.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter for employers who have filed LCAs for construction management roles. Companies with recent H-1B construction filings are far more likely to sponsor again than those with no prior filing history.
Get licensed before your H-1B start date
Many states require a contractor's license or site safety certification tied to the job duties. USCIS evaluates whether you currently meet the role's requirements, so pending licensure at petition time can weaken the specialty occupation argument.
Clarify your job duties align with O*NET
The O*NET profile for Construction Site Manager lists specific supervisory and engineering-adjacent tasks. Your offer letter and employer support letter should mirror this language closely so USCIS can confirm the role meets the specialty occupation definition.
Time the petition around project contract cycles
Construction employers often hire against active project contracts. Ask your prospective employer whether their H-1B petition timeline aligns with an awarded contract, since USCIS requires evidence of legitimate, non-speculative employment at the time of filing.

Find Construction Site Manager JobsConstruction Site Manager H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Construction Site Manager role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
It depends on how the employer structures the position. USCIS approves Construction Site Manager roles when the employer demonstrates the job normally requires a bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a closely related field. Roles framed around general coordination without engineering or technical oversight often face RFEs. The job description and support letter both carry significant weight in this determination.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for construction management roles?
Large general contractors, engineering and design-build firms, and infrastructure companies with federal or commercial project portfolios are the most active H-1B sponsors in construction. Employers enrolled in E-Verify and those with prior DOL LCA filings for construction management are your strongest leads. Migrate Mate filters employers by LCA filing history so you can identify who has actually sponsored roles like this one.
Can I switch construction employers on an active H-1B?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new construction employer as soon as they file a new H-1B petition on your behalf, without waiting for approval, provided your prior H-1B was approved and you've maintained valid status. The new employer must file a new LCA and petition with USCIS. Your role and degree alignment must still satisfy the specialty occupation standard at the new company.
What documentation does a construction employer need to file my H-1B petition?
The employer files Form I-129 with USCIS, supported by a certified LCA from DOL, your academic credentials, a detailed job description establishing specialty occupation, and evidence of the employer-employee relationship. For construction roles, project contracts or scopes of work are often included to demonstrate non-speculative employment. You'll also need to provide your degree certificates and any professional licenses required for the position in that state.
Does holding a Professional Engineer license help my H-1B case as a site manager?
A PE license significantly strengthens the specialty occupation argument for Construction Site Manager roles because it demonstrates the position requires a high level of technical and theoretical knowledge consistent with a bachelor's degree or higher. USCIS is more likely to approve petitions where professional licensing requirements independently confirm the degree nexus, especially for roles that might otherwise appear supervisory rather than technical.
