H-1B Visa Emergency Room RN Jobs

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship in Emergency Room RN
Verify your credentials before applying
CGFNS credential evaluation and state RN licensure must be complete before an employer can file your H-1B petition. Start both processes at least six months before your target start date to avoid delays in the sponsorship timeline.
Target hospitals enrolled in E-Verify
STEM OPT employers must use E-Verify, but for H-1B ER roles, E-Verify enrollment signals an employer already has compliant hiring infrastructure. Filter your search on Migrate Mate by employers with documented H-1B LCA filings in healthcare occupations.
Understand the prevailing wage before negotiating
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your geographic area and experience level. Look up the figure yourself using the OFLC Wage Search before your offer conversation so you know the floor, not just the offer.
Ask about cap-exempt hospital affiliations
Hospitals affiliated with nonprofit research institutions or universities may qualify as cap-exempt H-1B employers, letting you start without waiting for the annual lottery. Confirm the facility's cap-exempt status directly with their HR or legal team before accepting an offer.

Find Emergency Room RN JobsEmergency Room RN H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Emergency Room RN role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, when the position requires a BSN or higher as a minimum entry requirement. USCIS evaluates each petition based on the job description and employer requirements, not the job title alone. If a hospital lists an associate degree as acceptable, the specialty occupation argument weakens. Roles requiring a BSN as a hard minimum consistently meet the standard.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for ER nurses?
Large hospital systems, academic medical centers, and Level I and II trauma centers are the most consistent H-1B sponsors for ER nurses. Smaller community hospitals sponsor less frequently due to the administrative burden. You can browse verified H-1B-sponsoring employers by occupation on Migrate Mate, which surfaces DOL LCA filing history so you can see which facilities have filed for RN roles.
How does the H-1B lottery affect ER nurses specifically?
Most hospital ER positions fall under the standard cap, meaning your employer must register you in the March lottery for an October 1 start. If you're on OPT with a gap between expiration and October 1, cap-gap rules may bridge your authorization. Hospitals affiliated with nonprofits or universities may be cap-exempt, letting you start immediately after approval.
Can a foreign-trained RN apply for H-1B sponsorship before passing NCLEX?
No. You must hold a valid U.S. RN license before an employer can file an H-1B petition for a clinical nursing role. NCLEX passage and state licensure are prerequisites, not concurrent steps. Some employers will extend a conditional offer while you complete licensure, but the I-129 petition cannot be filed until the license is in hand.
What credentials strengthen an H-1B petition for an ER nursing role?
A BSN is the foundation, but ACLS and BLS certifications are standard requirements for ER positions and should appear in your petition documentation. Emergency nursing certifications such as CEN demonstrate specialty-level qualification and support the specialty occupation argument. Your O*NET occupation profile for registered nurses can also be referenced in the petition to show the degree-level requirements for the role.
