H-1B Visa Instructional Assistant Jobs
Instructional Assistant roles can qualify for H-1B sponsorship when the position requires a bachelor's degree in education, psychology, or a directly related field. Many K-12 districts and higher education institutions file LCAs for these roles. Knowing which employers consistently sponsor matters more than applying broadly.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as an Instructional Assistant
Verify your degree field matches the role
USCIS requires the job to qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning a specific bachelor's degree must be a standard requirement for the position. An education or child development degree strengthens your case more than a general liberal arts credential.
Target higher education employers over K-12 districts
Universities and community colleges file H-1B petitions far more frequently than public school districts, which often lack HR infrastructure for sponsorship. Filter your search toward postsecondary institutions and research universities with established international hiring records.
Search LCA filing history on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to identify employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for Instructional Assistant or similar education support roles. Employers with verified LCA history are actively set up to sponsor, which cuts your outreach time significantly.
Check prevailing wage before your interview
Look up the wage level for your specific county and SOC code using the OFLC Wage Search before accepting any offer. Employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, so knowing Level I versus Level II thresholds helps you evaluate whether an offer is approvable.
Clarify sponsorship before the offer stage
Many education employers assume Instructional Assistant roles don't require H-1B sponsorship because they hire domestically at high volume. Raise sponsorship directly during the second or final-round interview so HR can confirm institutional capacity before you invest in the process.
Time your application around the April filing window
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed in April for an October 1 start date. Coordinate your job search so you have a signed offer letter by March, giving your employer enough time to file with USCIS before the registration deadline closes.

Find Instructional Assistant JobsInstructional Assistant H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Instructional Assistant job qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
It depends on how the employer defines the role. H-1B requires the position to be a specialty occupation, meaning it normally requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field like education, psychology, or special education. If the employer lists a degree as preferred rather than required, the petition is harder to approve. Roles at universities or specialized learning centers tend to meet this bar more consistently than general K-12 aide positions.
Which types of employers sponsor H-1B visas for Instructional Assistants?
Higher education institutions, including community colleges and research universities, are the most active sponsors for instructional and academic support roles. Some private K-12 schools and specialized education nonprofits also sponsor, particularly for roles tied to special education or bilingual instruction. You can find employers with verified H-1B filing history for education roles on Migrate Mate, filtered by occupation and employer type.
Can a school district sponsor my H-1B as an Instructional Assistant?
Public school districts can sponsor H-1B petitions, but many don't because the administrative cost and process are unfamiliar to their HR teams. Districts that do sponsor tend to do so for hard-to-fill specialties like bilingual education or special needs support. If you're targeting a district, ask their HR department directly whether they have prior H-1B filing experience before advancing in the process.
What documentation should I prepare before applying for H-1B-sponsored Instructional Assistant roles?
Have your official transcripts ready to demonstrate your degree is in a field directly related to instruction, such as education, child development, or applied psychology. If your degree is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation completed through a NACES-member organization. You'll also need to document any teaching certifications or relevant licenses, since these strengthen the specialty occupation argument your employer will make to USCIS.
How does prevailing wage affect H-1B sponsorship for Instructional Assistant positions?
Your employer must pay at least the prevailing wage for your role, location, and experience level as determined by DOL. Instructional Assistant positions often fall at wage Level I or II, which are the lower tiers. If the employer's budget is below the prevailing wage for your area, they can't legally file the H-1B petition. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the correct wage level for your county before you discuss compensation.
