Verify your degree field matches the role
USCIS requires a direct relationship between your degree field and the Partnerships Lead duties. A business, marketing, or communications degree supports the petition. An unrelated degree can trigger an RFE even if you have years of relevant experience.
Check employer LCA filings before applying
DOL certifies an LCA before any H-1B petition can be filed. Use Migrate Mate to filter Partnerships Lead roles by verified employer LCA history, so you're targeting companies that have already completed this step for the occupation.
Target companies with cap-exempt affiliations
Universities, research institutions, and nonprofit research organizations are exempt from the annual H-1B cap. Partnerships roles at these organizations let you start without waiting for the lottery, which runs once per fiscal year.
Request an offer letter that specifies degree requirements
USCIS scrutinizes whether Partnerships Lead is a specialty occupation. An offer letter that explicitly states a bachelor's degree in a specific field is required strengthens the petition and reduces the chance of an RFE on the specialty occupation question.
Use OFLC Wage Search to benchmark the prevailing wage
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for the Partnerships Lead SOC code in your work location. Look up the Level I through Level IV wage tiers on OFLC Wage Search before negotiating your offer to confirm the salary clears the threshold.
File H-1B before your OPT or grace period expires
If you're on OPT, your employer must file the H-1B petition by April 1 to get a cap-subject slot starting October 1. Missing the registration window in March means waiting another full year, so confirm your employer's filing timeline early in the hiring process.
H-1B Visa Partnerships Lead: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Partnerships Lead role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
USCIS evaluates each petition individually, but Partnerships Lead roles generally qualify when the job description requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, strategy, or a closely related field. Generic relationship-management roles without a defined degree requirement are more likely to receive an RFE, so the offer letter and job description need to frame the academic requirement clearly.
How do I find employers who actively sponsor H-1B visas for Partnerships Lead positions?
Migrate Mate surfaces verified LCA filing history by employer and occupation, so you can see which companies have filed for Partnerships Lead or closely related roles before you apply. This filters out employers who say they're open to sponsorship but have no track record of actually completing the DOL and USCIS filing steps for this type of role.
Can my Partnerships Lead job duties affect my H-1B petition if they change after I'm hired?
Yes. If your duties shift materially after your H-1B is approved, your employer may need to file an amended petition with USCIS. Partnerships Lead roles often evolve from individual contributor to cross-functional or managerial work. Any change that affects the SOC code, work location, or wage level can require an amended filing before the change takes effect.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for a Partnerships Lead on H-1B?
DOL requires your employer to pay at least the prevailing wage for the specific SOC code and geographic location listed on the LCA. For Partnerships Lead, the relevant SOC code typically falls under Business Development or Sales Management categories. You can look up current wage levels by location using OFLC Wage Search, and your employer certifies compliance with that figure before USCIS ever sees the petition.
How does the H-1B lottery affect my timeline for starting a Partnerships Lead job?
Cap-subject H-1B petitions are subject to an annual lottery, with registration opening in March for an October 1 start date. If you're selected, your employer files the full petition after selection. If you're not selected, you can't start in an H-1B status that fiscal year unless the employer has a cap-exempt affiliation. Planning your job search and offer timeline around the March registration window is essential for Partnerships Lead roles at for-profit companies.
