Verify your degree aligns with the role
H-1B specialty occupation requires your degree field to directly relate to Patient Services Manager duties. A business administration or healthcare management degree is the clearest fit. A degree in an unrelated field increases RFE risk, so document the connection explicitly.
Target health systems with LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Patient Services Manager roles by employers with verified H-1B Labor Condition Application filings. Health systems filing LCAs for this occupation code have already cleared DOL prevailing-wage certification, which shortens your time from offer to petition.
Check prevailing wage before accepting an offer
Run your job title and work location through the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating. Your offered salary must meet the DOL prevailing wage for Patient Services Managers in that metro area. Offers below the threshold require employer adjustment before USCIS will approve the petition.
Confirm the employer files before cap registration
H-1B cap registration opens in March for an October 1 start date. Confirm your prospective employer has an immigration counsel or HR process ready to register by the deadline. Health systems with existing H-1B programs are more likely to meet this timeline than smaller outpatient practices filing for the first time.
Request premium processing if your start date is fixed
If your offer letter specifies a start date tied to a budget cycle or department opening, ask your employer to file with USCIS premium processing. Standard adjudication can run several months, and Patient Services Manager roles with defined onboarding timelines rarely have flexibility to wait.
Document supervisory scope in your job description
USCIS scrutinizes managerial roles to confirm specialty occupation status. Your employer's job description should explicitly tie Patient Services Manager duties to healthcare policy, compliance, or operations requiring a specialized degree, not just staff supervision. A vague description is one of the most common RFE triggers for this title.

Find Patient Services Manager JobsPatient Services Manager H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Patient Services Manager role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in healthcare administration, business administration, or a directly related field. The employer must demonstrate that the role's core duties, such as compliance oversight, patient access operations, or clinical coordination, require specialized degree-level knowledge. Roles where any bachelor's degree satisfies the requirement regardless of field are more vulnerable to USCIS challenge.
Which types of employers sponsor H-1B visas for Patient Services Manager positions?
Large hospital networks, academic medical centers, multi-site outpatient clinic operators, and integrated health systems file the most H-1B petitions for management roles in patient services. Smaller private practices or single-location clinics sponsor less frequently because the administrative overhead of H-1B filing is harder to absorb. You can browse employers with active filing history for this role on Migrate Mate.
How does the DOL prevailing wage requirement affect Patient Services Manager offers?
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for Patient Services Managers in the specific metropolitan area where you'll work. Wage levels vary significantly by location, and the employer certifies this on the Labor Condition Application before USCIS ever sees the petition. If your offer falls below the prevailing wage, the employer must increase it before filing, or the LCA will not be certified.
Can a Patient Services Manager on OPT transition to H-1B with the same employer?
Yes. If you're currently employed under OPT and your employer wants to keep you, they file an H-1B cap-subject petition during the March registration window for an October 1 start date. Your OPT cap-gap protection covers continued employment after your OPT expires if the petition is filed before your EAD end date. Confirm your employer's willingness to sponsor before your OPT authorization runs out.
Does the O*NET classification for Patient Services Manager support H-1B eligibility?
The O*NET profile for Medical and Health Services Managers, which covers Patient Services Manager roles, lists a typical entry requirement of a bachelor's degree or higher, which aligns with USCIS specialty occupation criteria. Employers and immigration attorneys often reference O*NET job zone classifications in H-1B petitions to establish that degree-level knowledge is the industry norm for this occupation.
