Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Pre Sales Engineer
Align your degree to specialty occupation
USCIS scrutinizes whether your specific degree field directly supports the Pre Sales Engineer role. A computer science, electrical engineering, or information systems degree maps cleanly; a general business degree may trigger an RFE, so document any technical coursework carefully.
Search employer LCA filings by SOC code
Pre Sales Engineers are typically filed under SOC code 15-1299 or 17-2199. Use the OFLC Wage Search to filter LCA disclosures by those codes and identify which employers have active filings for this title before you apply.
Find verified H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Pre Sales Engineer roles by employers with confirmed H-1B LCA filing history, so you're targeting companies that have already sponsored this specific job function rather than guessing from job postings.
Negotiate offer timing around the April cap
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start. If you're interviewing in January or February, push to finalize your offer by mid-March so your employer's legal team has time to prepare the I-129 and supporting documentation.
Clarify whether the employer is cap-exempt
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and certain government entities can file H-1B petitions year-round without the lottery. If a Pre Sales Engineer role exists at a university tech transfer office or research lab, ask HR directly about cap-exempt status early in the process.
Document your technical consulting deliverables
USCIS may question whether Pre Sales Engineering is truly a specialty occupation if the job description emphasizes relationship-building over technical work. Secure a detailed offer letter that lists specific technical duties, required certifications, and the engineering degree requirement explicitly.

Find Pre Sales Engineer JobsPre Sales Engineer H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Pre Sales Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, in most cases. USCIS evaluates whether the role normally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field. Pre Sales Engineers who design technical solutions, conduct proof-of-concept deployments, or support complex enterprise implementations generally qualify. Roles that blend sales and technical work require a clear job description that emphasizes the degree requirement to avoid an RFE.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas most often for Pre Sales Engineers?
Enterprise software, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, and hardware companies are the most consistent H-1B sponsors for Pre Sales Engineers. These employers routinely file LCAs because the role requires deep technical knowledge of products that change frequently. You can verify which companies have active filings by reviewing OFLC disclosure data or searching Migrate Mate for roles filtered by H-1B sponsorship history.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new Pre Sales Engineer role at a different company?
Yes. H-1B portability under AC21 lets you start working for a new employer as soon as they file a new I-129 petition, provided your previous petition was approved and you've been in valid H-1B status for at least 180 days. Your new employer files the petition and a fresh LCA covering the prevailing wage for the new position and location.
What prevailing wage level typically applies to Pre Sales Engineer H-1B petitions?
Most Pre Sales Engineer H-1B petitions are filed at Level II or Level III under DOL's four-tier wage system, depending on experience and complexity of the role. Employers determine the applicable wage using the OFLC Wage Search by SOC code and work location. Your offered salary must meet or exceed the certified prevailing wage for the petition to be approvable by USCIS.
What happens to my H-1B status if my Pre Sales Engineer role shifts to a different territory or travel-heavy schedule?
If your employer assigns you to work at client sites in multiple states for extended periods, they may need to post LCA notices at those locations and potentially file an amended H-1B petition depending on whether the change constitutes a material change in worksite. Short-term placements under 60 consecutive days at a non-listed worksite are generally covered under existing DOL short-term placement rules, but anything longer requires proactive compliance steps from your employer.
