Verify your degree aligns with procurement
USCIS requires your degree field to directly relate to the role. A supply chain, business, or finance degree strengthens your specialty occupation case. A general studies degree may require a credential evaluation showing coursework concentration in a qualifying field.
Target industries with consistent LCA filings
Manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and enterprise technology companies file LCAs for Procurement Directors far more regularly than retail or nonprofit sectors. Use the OFLC Wage Search to confirm which industries have active filings for this occupation before applying.
Search verified H-1B employers on Migrate Mate
Filter by Procurement Director roles on Migrate Mate to see employers with confirmed H-1B filing history for this title. That history signals a documented sponsorship process, not a first-time approval attempt on your behalf.
Clarify director-level SOC code with your employer
DOL wage levels for Procurement Directors vary significantly between Level III and Level IV classifications. Ask your employer which SOC code they plan to use on the LCA before the offer is finalized, since the wage level affects prevailing wage compliance.
Negotiate H-1B filing costs into your offer stage
Employers are legally required to pay USCIS filing fees for H-1B petitions, but premium processing is optional. Confirm during the offer process whether your employer will elect premium processing, which reduces USCIS adjudication time to 15 business days.
Document your strategic scope for the I-129
USCIS scrutinizes director-level roles for specialty occupation evidence. Prepare a summary of your budget authority, cross-functional oversight, and vendor negotiation responsibilities. Your employer's attorney will use this detail to draft the I-129 support letter.

Find Procurement Director JobsProcurement Director H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Procurement Director role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as supply chain management, business administration, or finance. USCIS evaluates the job duties, not just the title, so your employer's petition must document that the role's complexity and scope require that specific degree-level expertise.
How do I find employers who have sponsored H-1B visas for Procurement Directors before?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by verified H-1B filing history, so you can identify employers who have previously sponsored this role rather than relying on employer self-reporting. Employers with prior LCA filings for Procurement Director positions have an established process, which reduces risk for both sides during the petition stage.
What wage level should I expect on a Procurement Director LCA?
DOL classifies Procurement Directors at wage Level III or Level IV depending on the scope of responsibility and the number of staff supervised. Your employer uses the OFLC Wage Search to determine the prevailing wage for your specific location and SOC code. Review the posted LCA before signing your offer to confirm the wage level matches your role's actual responsibilities.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new procurement role without restarting the process?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new employer as soon as they file a transfer petition, provided your current H-1B was approved and you've maintained valid status. The new employer must file a new I-129, and the role must still qualify as a specialty occupation, but you don't re-enter the lottery.
Does a Procurement Director title face extra USCIS scrutiny compared to individual contributor roles?
Director-level titles sometimes attract requests for evidence because USCIS looks for evidence the role genuinely requires a specific degree rather than general management experience. Your employer's attorney should document budget authority, technical procurement systems used, and the degree fields of others performing similar work at peer companies to address this before USCIS raises it.
