Map your degree to the SOC code
Product Marketing Manager roles are classified under SOC 11-2021. Pull the O*NET profile for that code and confirm your degree field aligns with the listed education requirements before applying, so you can address the specialty occupation question confidently.
Filter employers by LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to search Product Marketing Manager roles filtered by employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history, so you're targeting companies that have already navigated the DOL certification process for this exact job title.
Verify prevailing wage before negotiating
Run your target city and SOC code through the OFLC Wage Search before you enter salary negotiations. Your offered wage must meet or exceed the prevailing wage level the employer certifies on the LCA, so knowing Level I through IV ranges protects you.
Ask about cap-exempt employer status early
Universities, nonprofit research organizations, and certain government-related entities are cap-exempt and can file H-1B petitions outside the annual lottery. If a PMM role at one of these employers interests you, confirm cap-exempt status during the recruiter screen.
Document cross-functional scope in your offer letter
USCIS scrutinizes PMM petitions because the role spans marketing, product, and strategy. Ask your employer to describe the specialist nature of the position explicitly in the offer letter and support letter, tying responsibilities to your specific degree field.
Time your application around the H-1B lottery window
USCIS opens H-1B registration in early March for an October 1 start date. If you're on OPT, confirm your OPT end date gives you cap-gap coverage through October 1 so there's no gap in work authorization after selection.
H-1B Visa Product Marketing Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Product Marketing Manager role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the employer can show the position normally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as marketing, business administration, or communications. Generic management titles can draw USCIS scrutiny, so the job description needs to tie daily responsibilities to that degree requirement explicitly. Roles at tech and SaaS companies with defined product portfolios tend to have the strongest cases.
Which employers regularly sponsor H-1B visas for Product Marketing Manager roles?
Tech companies, enterprise software firms, and cloud platform providers are the most consistent sponsors for PMM roles because they operate at the scale where dedicated product marketing functions are standard. Browse Migrate Mate to see employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history filtered by this job title, so you're not guessing about sponsorship willingness before you apply.
What is the prevailing wage for a Product Marketing Manager on H-1B?
Prevailing wages for PMM roles fall under SOC code 11-2021 and vary significantly by metro area and experience level. The DOL sets four wage levels, and your offered salary must meet the level your employer certifies on the LCA. Run your city and SOC code through the OFLC Wage Search to see current wage levels before negotiating, so you're not caught off-guard at the filing stage.
Can a Product Marketing Manager transfer their H-1B to a new employer?
Yes. H-1B portability under AC21 lets you start working for a new employer as soon as the new I-129 petition is filed, without waiting for approval, as long as your previous H-1B was approved and you've maintained valid status. Your new employer files a new I-129 with a fresh LCA covering the PMM role at the new company. There's no need to restart the lottery.
How does the H-1B lottery affect my Product Marketing Manager job search timeline?
USCIS accepts H-1B registrations in early March each year for petitions with an October 1 start date. If you're selected, your employer has from April 1 to June 30 to file the full I-129 petition. That six-month gap between registration and start date is something to discuss with any potential employer early, particularly if your OPT or CPT authorization expires before October 1.
