Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship in Regional Sales Representative
Verify your degree aligns with the role
USCIS requires a direct relationship between your degree field and the Regional Sales Representative position. A marketing, business administration, or international business degree typically satisfies specialty occupation requirements. A general studies degree may trigger an RFE.
Search LCA filings by occupation code
Use Migrate Mate to filter employers by H-1B LCA filing history for sales representative roles. This shows you which companies have sponsored the position before, so you're not cold-applying to employers who've never filed for this job category.
Target multi-state employers with regional headcount
Companies with dedicated regional sales structures are more likely to have established H-1B sponsorship processes. Employers managing territories across several states typically have HR infrastructure to handle LCA filings and prevailing wage compliance across multiple DOL regions.
Check prevailing wages by territory location
Your H-1B prevailing wage is tied to the worksite address, not company headquarters. If your territory covers multiple metro areas, run each location through OFLC Wage Search so you understand the wage floor before your offer letter arrives.
Negotiate sponsorship before signing the offer
Get written confirmation that the employer will file the I-129 petition and cover the associated USCIS fees before you accept. Sales roles often involve variable compensation structures; confirm your base salary meets the prevailing wage on its own, without factoring in commissions.
Plan your timeline around the cap and start date
H-1B cap-subject petitions can only be filed for an October 1 start date. If you're currently on OPT, factor in your OPT expiration and the 60-day grace period when evaluating whether a role's timeline works before committing to resign from your current position.
H-1B Visa Regional Sales Representative: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Regional Sales Representative role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. USCIS requires that the role normally require a bachelor's degree in a specific field, not just any degree. Regional Sales Representative positions tied to technical products, financial services, pharmaceutical sales, or B2B software are more likely to qualify than generalist consumer sales roles, where degree requirements are less defined.
How does commission-based pay affect H-1B prevailing wage compliance?
Your base salary must meet or exceed the prevailing wage for your worksite location, as determined by DOL. USCIS does not count variable commissions toward prevailing wage compliance. If your offer includes a lower base with significant commission upside, confirm the guaranteed base alone satisfies the wage requirement before the LCA is filed.
What happens if my sales territory spans multiple states?
Each primary worksite location requires its own LCA, posted at each office or territory hub. If you work remotely from a home office in a different state than your employer's headquarters, the prevailing wage is calculated for your home office location. Your employer needs to file LCAs reflecting all locations where you'll regularly work.
How do I find employers who have sponsored H-1B visas for sales roles before?
Migrate Mate shows verified DOL LCA filing history by job title and employer, so you can identify companies that have actively sponsored Regional Sales Representative positions rather than relying on job postings that may not reflect actual sponsorship willingness. Filtering by occupation code is faster than reviewing individual company pages.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new sales employer mid-year?
Yes. H-1B portability under AC21 lets you start working for a new employer once they file the transfer petition, without waiting for approval, as long as your original petition was approved and you've maintained valid status. The new employer must file a new LCA reflecting the correct prevailing wage for your territory's worksite location before submitting the transfer petition.
