Verify your degree supports specialty occupation
USCIS requires your degree field to directly relate to a Renewals Manager's core duties, such as contract management, revenue operations, or financial analysis. A general business degree may need supplemental documentation if your transcript doesn't align with the specific role.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Renewals Manager openings by employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for this role, so you're applying to companies with a demonstrated H-1B sponsorship track record rather than hoping they'll sponsor.
Check prevailing wage level before negotiating offers
Run the OFLC Wage Search for your target metro area before any offer conversation. Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the prevailing rate, so knowing the threshold helps you gauge whether an offer can realistically support a petition.
Confirm the employer files before the lottery closes
If you need a new H-1B, registration opens in March and selection happens before April 1. Ask recruiters directly whether they file in time for the annual cap window, since some smaller employers in SaaS or insurance only engage immigration counsel after an offer is signed.
Document renewal performance metrics for RFE responses
USCIS occasionally issues Requests for Evidence questioning whether a Renewals Manager role qualifies as a specialty occupation. Keep quantified records of your responsibilities, such as contract renewal rates and revenue retention figures, to support your employer's response if needed.
Use your 60-day grace period strategically between roles
If your H-1B ends with one employer, you have a 60-day grace period to secure a new sponsoring offer. Prioritize employers who can file an H-1B transfer quickly, since your work authorization doesn't begin at the new company until USCIS receives the transfer petition.
H-1B Visa Renewals Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Renewals Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as business administration, finance, or a related discipline. USCIS evaluates the job duties, not just the title. Renewals Manager roles that involve contract strategy, revenue forecasting, or client retention analysis generally satisfy the specialty occupation standard, particularly at mid-market and enterprise employers in SaaS, insurance, and financial services.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas most often for Renewals Managers?
SaaS and subscription software companies, insurance carriers, and financial services firms sponsor H-1B visas for Renewals Managers with the most regularity. These industries rely heavily on recurring-revenue models, making the role a core business function rather than a discretionary hire. You can browse employers with verified LCA filing history for this role on Migrate Mate.
Can my employer sponsor my H-1B extension if my role changes from Renewals Manager to a senior or director title?
Yes, but your employer must file an amended H-1B petition with USCIS before the role change takes effect if the new position involves materially different duties, a different location, or a different wage level. A title change to Senior Renewals Manager or Director of Renewals typically requires an amended petition, which your employer's immigration counsel should initiate proactively.
What happens to my H-1B status if my employer is acquired or merges with another company?
Your H-1B status remains valid through a merger or acquisition if the successor entity assumes your H-1B obligations and your job duties, title, and compensation stay substantially the same. USCIS generally allows a successor-in-interest transfer without a new petition, but your employer's legal team should document the corporate change and confirm no amended petition is required for your specific role.
How do I find Renewals Manager jobs where the employer is already set up to sponsor H-1B visas?
The most reliable signal is an employer's prior LCA filing history, which is public DOL data showing which companies have sponsored comparable roles at certified wage levels. Migrate Mate surfaces this data by employer and occupation, so you can identify companies that have already filed for Renewals Manager or closely related titles rather than relying on job descriptions that vaguely mention visa sponsorship.
