Verify your SOC code before applying
SAP Technical Architect roles are filed under varying SOC codes depending on whether the employer emphasizes systems design or software development. Pull the O*NET profile for both categories to confirm your degree field aligns with the job duties your offer letter describes.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter SAP Technical Architect roles by employers who have certified LCAs for this specific occupation, so you're applying to companies with a documented H-1B filing track record rather than guessing at sponsorship willingness.
Benchmark your offered wage against OFLC data
Before accepting an offer, run your job title, SOC code, and work location through the OFLC Wage Search to confirm the offered salary meets at least Level II prevailing wage. An underpaid LCA is a common RFE trigger USCIS scrutinizes closely for architect-level roles.
Document enterprise SAP scope in your resume
H-1B petitions for architect roles face closer specialty occupation scrutiny than developer roles. Your resume and support letter should quantify the systems you've governed, the SAP modules you've architected, and the scale of deployments to substantiate that a bachelor's-level specialty is genuinely required.
Clarify remote work jurisdiction in your LCA
If your employer lists a headquarters location but your actual worksite differs, DOL requires a separate LCA or a short-term worksite posting for each location. Confirm before signing that your offer reflects the correct worksite, especially on hybrid or fully remote SAP architect engagements.
Time your transfer to avoid cap re-entry
If you're already on an approved H-1B and changing employers, your new employer can file a cap-exempt transfer and you can start once the petition is received by USCIS, not after approval. Don't resign from your current role before the receipt notice is confirmed.
H-1B Visa SAP Technical Architect: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an SAP Technical Architect role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, in most cases. USCIS evaluates specialty occupation based on whether the role normally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. SAP Technical Architect positions typically require degrees in computer science, information systems, or engineering and involve systems-level design work that satisfies that threshold. Employers strengthen the petition by documenting the theoretical and technical knowledge the role demands.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for SAP Technical Architect roles?
Large systems integrators, enterprise software consultancies, and multinational corporations running SAP ERP environments are the most consistent H-1B sponsors for this title. Migrate Mate surfaces employers who have filed LCAs specifically for SAP architect-level roles, so you can focus your search on companies with a confirmed sponsorship history rather than relying on job postings that may not reflect actual sponsorship intent.
Can I switch employers mid-H-1B while working as an SAP Technical Architect?
Yes. Under portability rules established by the American Competitiveness in the 21st Century Act, you can transfer your H-1B to a new employer once the new petition is received by USCIS, provided you've been maintaining valid H-1B status. The new employer must file a cap-exempt petition with a role substantially similar in occupational classification to your approved petition.
How does prevailing wage apply to SAP Technical Architect H-1B petitions?
Your employer must certify in the LCA that they'll pay you at least the prevailing wage for your SOC code, job level, and work location, as determined by DOL. Architect-level roles often qualify for Level III or Level IV wages, which are higher than entry-level rates. You can verify the applicable wage yourself using the OFLC Wage Search before evaluating any offer.
Does a consulting arrangement affect H-1B sponsorship for SAP architects?
Yes, and this is a common complication. If you work at a client site rather than the sponsoring employer's premises, USCIS requires the employer to demonstrate that it controls your day-to-day work, sets your schedule, and supervises your deliverables. Third-party placement arrangements receive heightened scrutiny, and the petition must include documentation of the employer-employee relationship to reduce RFE risk.
