Verify your degree meets specialty occupation
USCIS requires your bachelor's degree field to directly relate to the Travel Consultant role. A degree in tourism management, hospitality, or international business gives you the strongest case. A general studies degree with no travel-industry coursework creates RFE risk.
Target corporate travel management employers
Corporate travel management companies and large employers with dedicated travel procurement departments file H-1B LCAs far more often than leisure-focused agencies. Filter your search by employer type before applying to avoid wasting time on sponsors who've never filed for this role category.
Check prevailing wage before accepting an offer
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the Level I through Level IV prevailing wage for Travel Consultant roles in your target city. Your offered salary must meet the certified wage on the LCA or USCIS will flag the petition.
Search verified H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Filter by Travel Consultant roles on Migrate Mate to see employers with confirmed H-1B LCA filing history in this occupation. This saves you from cold-applying to agencies that have never sponsored the visa and won't know how to start.
Clarify the LCA job title before signing
The job title on your offer letter must match or closely align with the certified LCA job title your employer files with DOL. Discrepancies between your business card title and the LCA title can complicate your petition, so confirm the exact title used in the filing.

Find Travel Consultant JobsTravel Consultant H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Travel Consultant role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. USCIS requires that the role normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Travel Consultant positions at corporate travel management firms that require a degree in tourism, hospitality, or business generally qualify. Roles at smaller leisure agencies that accept any background or no degree typically don't meet the specialty occupation standard.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Travel Consultant roles?
Corporate travel management companies, global distribution system providers, and large corporations with in-house travel procurement teams are the most consistent H-1B sponsors for this occupation. Leisure travel agencies and independent operators rarely file. Search Migrate Mate to find Travel Consultant openings filtered by employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history in this job category.
How does prevailing wage work for Travel Consultants on H-1B?
Your employer must certify with DOL that your offered wage meets the prevailing wage for the Travel Consultant occupation in your work location before filing your H-1B petition. The prevailing wage varies by city and experience level. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check current wage levels for this role in your target market before negotiating your offer.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a different travel employer mid-status?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new travel employer as soon as they file a new H-1B petition on your behalf, without waiting for approval, as long as your previous H-1B was approved and you've maintained valid status. Your new employer still needs to file a fresh LCA with DOL and submit an I-129 petition to USCIS.
What O*NET occupation code applies to Travel Consultant roles for H-1B filings?
Most Travel Consultant positions fall under O*NET occupation codes for Travel Agents or Meeting, Convention, and Event Planners, depending on the scope of the role. Your employer's immigration attorney will select the code that most accurately matches the actual job duties. Checking the O*NET profile for your specific role helps confirm whether the listed education requirements support a specialty occupation argument.
