Align your degree to GTM specializations
H-1B1 visa requires a directly related bachelor's degree. For Go To Market roles, a degree in marketing, business administration, or economics strengthens your specialty occupation case more than a general management credential does.
Use OFLC Wage Search before negotiating salary
Pull the prevailing wage for your specific SOC code and metro area before you receive an offer. Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above that level, so knowing the floor protects you during negotiation.
Target employers with active LCA filing histories
GTM roles get sponsored most often at SaaS, enterprise software, and tech-adjacent companies. Use Migrate Mate to filter for employers who have filed LCAs for business development or marketing strategy positions tied to H-1B1 Chile.
Clarify your job title maps to a specialty occupation
Titles like 'GTM Strategist' or 'Growth Manager' can be ambiguous. Cross-reference your role's duties against the O*NET profile for your SOC code to confirm the position requires a specific degree field, not just any bachelor's.
Ask about LCA timing before accepting an offer
Because H-1B1 skips USCIS petition review, the LCA certification from DOL is the bottleneck. Confirm your employer will file the LCA at least two weeks before your consulate appointment to avoid scheduling delays.
Prepare Chilean credential documentation early
Consular officers reviewing H-1B1 applications scrutinize foreign degree equivalency. Get your Chilean university transcripts officially translated and, if your degree is three years, gather evidence that it meets U.S. bachelor's equivalency standards before your interview.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Go To Market role qualify as a specialty occupation under H-1B1?
Yes, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as marketing, business administration, or a related discipline. Generic management roles that accept any degree field can fail the specialty occupation test. Your offer letter and job description should explicitly state the degree requirement to support the LCA filing.
How does the H-1B1 Chile visa compare to the H-1B for Go To Market professionals?
The H-1B1 Chile visa skips the lottery entirely and processes at the consulate rather than through USCIS, which means faster timelines and no registration gamble. The trade-off is that H-1B1 doesn't allow dual intent, so you can't use it as a stepping stone to a green card without switching status later. For GTM professionals focused on U.S. work now, H-1B1 is the more direct route.
Where can I find U.S. employers who sponsor H-1B1 Chile visas for GTM roles?
Migrate Mate lets you search for employers with verified H-1B1 Chile LCA filing history filtered by occupation, so you're targeting companies that have already navigated the sponsorship process for roles like yours. This is more reliable than applying broadly and hoping an employer will sponsor, since GTM sponsorship willingness varies significantly by company size and industry.
Can I switch employers on an H-1B1 Chile visa if I receive a better GTM offer?
Yes, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need a new visa stamp if you travel internationally before the switch is complete. Unlike H-1B visa portability, H-1B1 doesn't have an AC21 provision, so your authorization is tied to the specific employer on your current visa. Coordinate the timing of your consulate appointment with your start date to avoid gaps.
What documents should I bring to my H-1B1 consulate interview for a GTM position?
Bring the certified LCA, your DS-160 confirmation, your passport, degree transcripts with translations if issued in Spanish, and your employment offer letter specifying the GTM role title and duties. Consular officers may ask you to explain how your degree field directly relates to your GTM responsibilities, so prepare a concise explanation of the connection between your academic background and the position's specialty occupation requirements.
