Verify your degree supports specialty occupation
The H-1B1 Chile visa requires your SDR role to qualify as a specialty occupation. Check the O*NET profile for Sales Development Representatives to confirm the listed education requirement matches your bachelor's degree field before applying.
Target companies enrolled in E-Verify
H-1B1 visa Chile employers must be authorized to hire foreign nationals. Prioritize companies already enrolled in E-Verify, since those employers have cleared the baseline compliance step and are less likely to stall on sponsorship paperwork.
Search verified H-1B1 employers on Migrate Mate
Pull up Migrate Mate to filter Sales Development Representative roles by employers with active H-1B1 Chile sponsorship history. DOL Labor Condition Application data surfaces which companies have filed for this visa type before.
Ask employers about LCA timing before accepting
Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before you can schedule a consulate interview. Confirm during the offer stage that your employer's HR team knows the LCA step exists and can file it within your start-date window.
Benchmark your offer against the OFLC Wage Search
The LCA certifies that your salary meets the DOL prevailing wage for your job title and location. Run your offer through the OFLC Wage Search under the SOC code for sales roles to catch any wage shortfall before your employer files.
Prepare Chilean credential documents before the interview
Consulate officers assess specialty occupation based on your academic credentials. Have your Chilean university transcripts translated and evaluated by a credential assessment service before your interview, so you're not scrambling after an employer already filed your LCA.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Sales Development Representative role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1 Chile?
Yes, if the role requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as business, marketing, communications, or a related discipline. The key is that the employer's job description must list a degree requirement, not just a preference. Roles framed as open to any background or requiring only a high school diploma won't meet the specialty occupation standard under the H-1B1 Chile visa.
How does the H-1B1 Chile visa compare to H-1B for Sales Development Representative roles?
The H-1B1 Chile visa has no lottery, a dedicated 1,400-visa annual cap for Chilean nationals that rarely fills, and is processed directly at the U.S. consulate rather than through USCIS. H-1B requires an employer to file a petition with USCIS and enter a lottery with low selection odds. For Chilean SDR candidates, H-1B1 Chile is a faster, more predictable path as long as the role meets the specialty occupation standard.
How do I find employers who sponsor H-1B1 Chile visas for SDR positions?
Use Migrate Mate to search Sales Development Representative roles filtered by employers with H-1B1 Chile sponsorship history, sourced from DOL Labor Condition Application filings. Most SDR sponsoring employers are mid-size to enterprise SaaS and tech companies that have established HR processes for foreign national hires and understand the LCA filing requirement.
Can I switch SDR employers after my H-1B1 Chile visa is approved?
Yes, but the H-1B1 Chile visa is employer-specific. If you change jobs, your new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and you'll typically need a new consulate appointment to stamp the updated visa. There's no portability rule like AC21 that applies to H-1B, so confirm your new employer is prepared to sponsor before you resign from your current role.
What documents do Chilean nationals typically need for an SDR H-1B1 Chile consulate interview?
You'll need your certified LCA from DOL, a support letter from your employer, proof of the specialty occupation requirement (your job offer specifying degree requirements), and your Chilean university transcripts with a credential evaluation if your degree is not from a U.S. institution. Officers may ask how your specific degree field connects to the SDR role, so prepare a clear explanation of that link.
