H-1B1 Singapore Visa Writer Jobs
Writer jobs in the U.S. are a strong fit for H-1B1 Singapore visa sponsorship: the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a relevant bachelor's degree, the 5,400-visa annual cap rarely fills, and you apply directly at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore without a lottery or USCIS petition.

Verify your degree field aligns precisely
H-1B1 visa requires a direct connection between your degree and the Writer role. A communications or English degree supports most positions, but a general arts degree may prompt employer pushback. Check O*NET to confirm the typical education field listed for your specific writing specialty.
Target employers with documented LCA filing history
Not every U.S. employer knows the H-1B1 Singapore pathway exists. Use DOL's OFLC Wage Search to identify companies that have previously filed Labor Condition Applications for writing roles, which signals they've navigated the sponsorship process before.
Find H-1B1 Singapore Writer roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters jobs by verified H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship, so you're not cold-applying to employers unfamiliar with the visa. Search Writer roles directly to see which companies have active LCA filings for your occupation.
Request your LCA before negotiating a start date
Your employer must file and receive a certified LCA from DOL before you can complete your DS-160 and book your consular interview. LCA certification takes up to seven working days, so factor this into your timeline when discussing your start date.
Prepare a portfolio demonstrating specialized writing output
Consular officers assess whether your role genuinely requires a specialized degree. Bring published clips, bylines, or project samples that show your writing is technical, content-domain-specific, or editorial in nature rather than general administrative writing.
Clarify your H-1B1 renewal timeline with your employer
H-1B1 Singapore is granted in one-year increments at the consulate and doesn't automatically extend. Confirm your employer plans to file a fresh LCA for each renewal cycle so your continuous employment authorization isn't interrupted by an administrative gap.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Writer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the H-1B1 Singapore visa?
Yes, provided the employer requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as communications, journalism, or English. General writing roles where any degree is accepted typically don't qualify. The employer documents the degree requirement in the Labor Condition Application, and the consular officer assesses it at your interview.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa compare to the H-1B for Writer jobs?
The H-1B1 Singapore has no lottery and a rarely-filled annual cap of 5,400 visas, while H-1B visa selection runs around 25% in recent years. H-1B1 is also processed directly at the consulate in Singapore without a USCIS petition. The trade-off is that H-1B1 is granted in one-year increments rather than the H-1B's standard three years, requiring annual renewal through your employer.
Where can I find U.S. employers who sponsor H-1B1 Singapore visas for Writers?
Migrate Mate shows Writer jobs filtered by verified H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship history, so you can target employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for writing roles rather than approaching companies unfamiliar with the visa category. This cuts down the time spent educating hiring managers about the H-1B1 pathway.
Can I switch Writer jobs while on an H-1B1 Singapore visa without leaving the U.S.?
Portability under H-1B1 Singapore is more limited than H-1B. Because the visa is typically stamped at the consulate rather than approved through USCIS, changing employers generally requires your new employer to file a fresh LCA, and you may need to return to Singapore for a new consular appointment. Confirm the specific process with your new employer before resigning.
What documents should I bring to my H-1B1 Singapore consular interview for a Writer role?
Bring your certified LCA, DS-160 confirmation, valid passport, visa fee receipt, degree certificates, and a portfolio or work samples demonstrating specialty-level writing. The consular officer will assess whether your role requires the degree you hold, so samples that show technical or domain-specific writing strengthen your case beyond what your diploma alone conveys.
