Verify your management credentials match DOL requirements
H-2B visa Assistant General Manager roles require documented proof of supervisory experience. Pull your employment records, performance reviews, and any hospitality certifications before approaching employers so your background clears the DOL's temporary need and prevailing-wage review without delays.
Search verified H-2B employers on Migrate Mate
Filter for Assistant General Manager openings at hotels and resorts with confirmed H-2B filing history using Migrate Mate. This narrows your search to operations that have already navigated the DOL certification process, not just employers who say they're open to sponsorship.
Target properties with multi-season operating cycles
Ski resorts, summer beach hotels, and seasonal golf clubs regularly need continuity at the management level. These employers file H-2B petitions repeatedly and are more likely to have an established sponsorship process than a business filing for the first time.
Confirm the employer files under the correct peak-season half
The 66,000 annual H-2B cap splits into 33,000 for each season half. An employer whose busy period starts in May falls under the summer allocation. Ask prospective sponsors which filing window they use so your start date aligns and your petition isn't counted against the wrong cap.
Request the job order and prevailing-wage determination early
Before the employer files with USCIS, they must obtain a prevailing-wage determination from OFLC using the OFLC Wage Search tool. Ask to review the certified wage level to confirm it matches the offer in your employment agreement, since discrepancies can trigger a Request for Evidence.
Prepare for the consular interview with role-specific documentation
Consular officers assess whether your skills genuinely match a temporary management need. Bring an organizational chart, your signed employment contract, and evidence of prior seasonal management roles to demonstrate that the position requires your specific operational experience, not a permanent resident who could fill it year-round.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Assistant General Manager jobs with H-2B visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces Assistant General Manager openings at hospitality employers with verified H-2B filing history, so you're not cold-applying to operations that have never sponsored a temporary worker. Filter by industry and seasonal period to match your availability to the employer's peak operational window.
Does the H-2B cap affect when I can start an Assistant General Manager role?
Yes, directly. The 66,000 annual H-2B cap divides into two season halves of 33,000 each. Your employer must file before the relevant cap fills, which happens quickly in high-demand years. Congress has authorized supplemental visas in some years, but that's not guaranteed. Your employer should file as early as the DOL-certified start date allows to protect your petition's place in the queue.
Can an Assistant General Manager role qualify for H-2B if it's described as year-round at the property?
H-2B requires the employer to demonstrate a temporary or seasonal need, not that the role itself is temporary. A property operating year-round may still qualify if it experiences a documented peak season with significantly higher operational demands. The employer's labor certification application must show this pattern to satisfy DOL's temporary-need standard.
What happens to my H-2B status if the hospitality property closes early or changes my role?
If your employer ends your position before the authorized end date, your H-2B status is tied to that specific employer and job. You have a short grace period recognized by USCIS, but you cannot simply transfer to another employer without a new H-2B petition being filed and approved. Notify USCIS promptly if your employment situation changes to avoid accruing unlawful presence.
