Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Entry Level Jobs
Pull your O*NET occupation code first
Entry Level H-2B visa roles are tied to specific Standard Occupational Classification codes. Look up your target role on O*NET before applying so you can confirm the position is classified as temporary and non-agricultural, which your employer must prove to DOL.
Target employers with recurring seasonal operations
Resorts, seafood canneries, and landscaping companies that hire H-2B workers every season already have legal counsel and DOL relationships in place. A first-time sponsor faces a much longer runway, so prioritize employers whose job postings reference prior H-2B cohorts.
Search verified H-2B employers on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings by DOL Labor Condition Application filing history, so you can see which employers have actually sponsored H-2B workers rather than those who just say they're open to it.
Understand the cap split before committing to a start date
The 66,000 annual H-2B cap is divided into 33,000 for the summer half-year and 33,000 for the winter half-year. If your employer misses the filing window for one half, your start date shifts by six months, so get the employer's intended petition date in writing.
Confirm your employer has filed the DOL temporary labor certification
Before an employer can petition USCIS for your H-2B visa, they must obtain a certified temporary labor certification from DOL. Ask for the certification reference number before accepting any offer, since an uncertified employer cannot legally proceed with sponsorship.
Check prevailing wage requirements using OFLC Wage Search
DOL requires your employer to pay at least the prevailing wage for your role and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to verify the wage level before signing an offer letter, since underpaid job offers can trigger DOL denials that delay or kill your petition.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Entry Level jobs with H-2B sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find Entry Level positions where employers have verified H-2B filing history. Generic job boards don't filter for visa sponsorship type, so you'll waste time on employers who can't or won't sponsor. Migrate Mate surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data so you can see which employers have actually gone through the H-2B process before.
How does the H-2B annual cap affect my chances of getting sponsored?
The H-2B program has a hard annual cap of 66,000 visas, split into 33,000 for the summer half-year and 33,000 for the winter half-year. Once a half-year cap fills, no new petitions are approved until the next period. Your employer must file with DOL and USCIS early enough to secure a slot before the cap closes, which often means starting the process four to five months before your intended start date.
Can I start work as soon as my employer files the H-2B petition?
No. You can't start work until USCIS approves the H-2B petition and, if you're outside the U.S., until you receive your visa stamp from a consulate or embassy. Filing alone does not authorize employment. Your employer's petition must clear both the DOL temporary labor certification stage and the USCIS approval stage before any work is permitted.
Does my specific Entry Level job title affect H-2B eligibility?
Yes. The role must be classified as temporary, non-agricultural, and tied to a specific Standard Occupational Classification code. Entry Level positions in hospitality, landscaping, seafood processing, and construction commonly qualify, but the employer must demonstrate to DOL that the need is genuinely temporary, typically defined as a one-time, seasonal, peak-load, or intermittent need lasting no more than three years.
