Verify your role qualifies as temporary
H-2B visa covers seasonal or peak-load need, not permanent marketing positions. Ask prospective employers to confirm their marketing coordinator opening is tied to a defined season, event cycle, or one-time project before you invest time in the application process.
Pull your O*NET occupation profile early
O*NET classifies Marketing Coordinator duties and the typical education level required. Review it before your interview so you can frame your credentials around the specific tasks DOL uses to assess prevailing wage and job description accuracy for your H-2B petition.
Search verified H-2B employers on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate surfaces employers with active H-2B sponsorship history filtered by role, so you're targeting companies that have navigated the DOL certification process before rather than approaching employers who've never filed.
Confirm the employer's cap-half timing early
The 33,000 October-to-March allocation and the 33,000 April-to-September allocation fill at different rates. Confirm which half your start date falls under and whether the employer is filing before cap exhaustion, since late filings often carry over into a depleted pool.
Get your credentials assessment documented now
Marketing Coordinator roles sometimes require demonstrating that your degree or experience meets specialty requirements for the job description. Have a credential evaluation completed before your employer submits the DOL application so delays in that paperwork don't stall the entire petition.
Ask if the employer uses E-Verify enrollment
Some industries relying on H-2B workers are enrolled in E-Verify for employment eligibility verification. Knowing this before your offer letter arrives lets you prepare your I-94 and identity documents so the post-hire verification step doesn't delay your actual start date.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Marketing Coordinator jobs with H-2B sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search for Marketing Coordinator roles where employers have active H-2B sponsorship history. Because the visa requires employers to complete DOL temporary labor certification before hiring, targeting companies already familiar with that process saves significant time. Migrate Mate filters job listings by visa sponsorship type so you're not applying blindly to employers who've never filed.
Does the H-2B annual cap affect when I need to start my job search?
Yes, timing is critical. The 66,000 annual cap is split into two halves of 33,000 each, tied to your employment start date. Employers must file well before their season begins, and once a cap-half is exhausted, USCIS stops accepting new petitions for that period. Starting your search three to four months before your intended start date gives your employer enough runway to complete DOL certification and the I-129 filing before the cap fills.
Can a Marketing Coordinator role qualify for H-2B status if it involves year-round duties?
Probably not. H-2B is limited to temporary need, which DOL defines as seasonal, peak-load, one-time, or intermittent. A marketing coordinator position described as permanent or ongoing won't pass DOL scrutiny during the labor certification stage. Employers must demonstrate that the need for the role is genuinely tied to a defined period, such as a tourism season or annual event campaign.
What documents should I prepare before an employer starts the H-2B filing process?
Gather your valid passport, any academic transcripts or degree certificates relevant to marketing work, and any prior U.S. visa records including old I-94 arrival records. If your credentials were issued outside the U.S., a credential evaluation can help your employer accurately complete the DOL prevailing wage and job description steps. Having these ready before the employer files the labor certification prevents delays in the USCIS I-129 stage.
