Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Service Specialist
Verify your credentials match specialty occupation requirements
Pull the O*NET profile for Service Specialist to confirm which certifications, customer service credentials, or vocational training align with what H-2B visa employers list on their temporary labor certification. Mismatched documentation is one of the most common reasons USCIS issues a Request for Evidence.
Target employers in cap-exempt peak-season windows
Hospitality and resort employers often file under the returning-worker exemption if you worked for them in prior years. Returning workers don't count against the 66,000 annual cap, so ask explicitly whether prior employment qualifies you for this status before comparing offers.
Search Migrate Mate for verified H-2B sponsors
Migrate Mate shows which employers have active H-2B labor certification history for service roles, so you're not guessing which properties actually sponsor. Filter by season and location to find employers whose petitions align with your availability.
Check prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
Your employer's H-2B petition must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your role and location. Run the OFLC Wage Search yourself before accepting any offer so you know whether the proposed rate meets the legal floor for your county.
Confirm the employer has filed by the correct deadline
DOL requires employers to submit their temporary labor certification no more than 90 days and no fewer than 75 days before the employment start date. If a prospective employer hasn't filed within that window, their petition can be rejected regardless of how strong your qualifications are.
Prepare a clear record of prior U.S. seasonal employment
Consular officers reviewing H-2B applications look closely at your history of returning home after prior U.S. stints. Gather pay stubs, prior I-94 exit records, and prior employer contact details to demonstrate a clean departure record before your visa interview.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Service Specialist jobs that offer H-2B visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find Service Specialist roles with confirmed H-2B sponsorship history. Because the H-2B process requires employers to file a temporary labor certification with DOL before petitioning USCIS, only employers who have already committed to sponsorship will appear. Searching through Migrate Mate surfaces those employers by role type and location, saving you from applying to properties that have never filed.
Does the H-2B annual cap affect when I should start my job search?
Yes. The 66,000-visa annual cap is split into two halves of 33,000 each, one for workers starting between October and March and one for April through September. Both halves fill quickly after the filing period opens, so employers sponsoring summer resort or hospitality roles typically begin the DOL labor certification process months before the start date. Starting your search at least five to six months before your target start date gives employers enough runway to file on time.
Can I switch employers mid-season on an H-2B visa?
H-2B status is employer-specific, meaning your authorization is tied to the petitioning employer named on the approved I-129. Switching properties or hospitality groups mid-season requires a new employer to file a separate petition on your behalf before you begin work. Attempting to work for a different employer before that petition is approved puts you out of status, so confirm any employer change through USCIS before making the move.
What documents should I have ready before an employer sponsors my H-2B petition?
You'll need a valid passport with at least six months of validity beyond your intended stay, documentation of any customer service or hospitality certifications relevant to the Service Specialist role, your complete employment history for the prior three years, and records of any previous U.S. visa issuances or entries. Employers and their attorneys commonly request these upfront to complete the I-129 petition and prepare for consular processing.
