Document your supervisory experience precisely
H-2B visa petitions require employers to define the job duties in detail. Pull together records showing you've directly supervised workers, assigned tasks, and managed daily operations, since vague credentials weaken the employer's labor certification case.
Target industries with recurring seasonal demand
Hospitality resorts, commercial landscaping companies, and seafood processing plants rehire H-2B teams year after year. Employers with a filing history are already familiar with the certification process, making them far more likely to sponsor a Team Lead role.
Search verified H-2B employers on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings by employers who have filed H-2B labor certifications with the DOL, so you're applying to companies that have already committed to sponsoring temporary workers, not guessing which ones will.
Apply before the cap fills in the first half
The 66,000-visa cap splits evenly between October and April start dates. DOL accepts labor certification applications starting 60 to 75 days before your employment start date, so missing the early filing window can push you to the next season entirely.
Confirm the employer files under the correct SOC code
Team Lead roles in seasonal industries are classified under specific Standard Occupational Classification codes that determine your prevailing wage obligation. Ask the employer which SOC code they're using and cross-check it against the OFLC Wage Search to verify the wage level is accurate.
Negotiate your return clause before the petition is filed
H-2B status is tied to a single employer petition. If the employer intends to rehire you next season, confirm that intent in writing before USCIS approves the petition, since switching employers mid-season requires a new filing and DOL certification.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Team Lead jobs that offer H-2B visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find Team Lead roles where the employer has already filed an H-2B labor certification with the DOL. Because H-2B sponsorship requires the employer to initiate the entire certification process, targeting companies with a verified filing history saves you from applying to employers who won't or can't sponsor you.
Does the H-2B cap affect when I can start a Team Lead role?
Yes. The 66,000 annual cap splits into two allotments of 33,000 each for the winter and summer halves of the fiscal year. Employers must file their temporary labor certification with the DOL 60 to 75 days before your start date, and cap numbers fill fast. If your employer misses the filing window, your start date shifts to the next available cap period.
Can I supervise a mixed crew of H-2B and U.S. workers as a Team Lead?
Yes, and employers frequently structure seasonal teams this way. However, the DOL requires that the H-2B labor certification cover the specific duties of your Team Lead role, regardless of whether the workers you supervise hold H-2B status or are domestic hires. Your supervisory duties must be documented clearly in the job order.
What happens to my H-2B status if the seasonal work ends early?
If your employer releases you before the petition end date, your H-2B status ends with the job. You have a 10-day grace period after your employment ends before you must depart the United States. USCIS does not authorize you to seek a new employer under the original petition, so any continued work requires a separate filing by a new sponsoring employer.
