This position is full-time. Employees are required to have flexibility to work during our normal business hours (24 hours a day, 7 days a week, candidate will work a total of 40 hours a week with 2 days off). It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime and weekends. Our office is located at 75 Four River Parkway Portland ME 04102.
We offer 4 weeks of on-the-job training. The hours of training will be aligned with your schedule.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervision and Training
- Serve as the knowledge expert and information resource for staff.
- Develop staffing calendars and ensure staffing needs are met. Implement alternative staffing patterns as needs arise, taking into consideration department budgetary constraints and performance requirements and restrictions.
- Interview and make hiring decisions to maintain adequate staffing in the department.
- Review and process timecards in an accurate and timely manner.
- Maintain accurate employee files.
- Provide timely performance improvement feedback and coaching.
- Initiate corrective action for staff when warranted by inappropriate employee behavior or inadequate work performance.
- Conduct timely training assessments and performance reviews.
- Solicit feedback from other staff and managers as appropriate.
- Develop and/or update training modules.
- Keep accurate records of personnel training schedules as well as training checklists.
- Ensure training is completed timely.
- Identify focus areas for competency assessments.
- Provide training opportunities addressing areas highlighted by these assessments.
Development and implementation of policies and procedures
- Develop, recommend and implement policies and procedures for the department.
- Update policy and procedure manuals as required.
- Apprise staff of changes.
- Monitor adherence to policies and established procedures both within and outside department.
- Propose procedural methods which ensure effective execution of program responsibilities.
Operational Duties
- Ensure that patient experience and service standards are met.
- Work collaboratively with hospital departments on issues relating to patient registrations, insurance prior authorization/verification, referrals, and financial counseling.
- Represent the department in meetings and on committees relating to these issues.
- Participate in training/development programs as agreed upon with the Patient Access Leadership.
- Gather and analyze departmental and program specific productivity and quality of service statistics.
- Provide information for budget preparation.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma / GED
- Must be 18 years of age OR older
- 3+ years of related experience within Patient Access functionality
- Intermediate level of computer related skills to send and receive emails, type general correspondence, and enter data into spreadsheets or other software applications
- Ability to work full-time flexible schedule between operating hours that are 24/7 and candidate will work an 8-hour shift
- Flu vaccination are an essential job function of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate Flu vaccination doses must also comply with those state requirements. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination, and boosters when applicable, prior to employment to ensure compliance. Candidates must be able to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 1+ years of leadership experience
- Experian and Cerner knowledge
SOFT SKILLS:
- Demonstrated ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow
- Proven verbal and written aptitude for adequate communication with the general public, providers, physician office staff, registration staff, and other healthcare professionals
- Demonstrated ability to navigate and utilize system applications and associated materials needed to perform duties
- Proven self-driven with an ability to multitask and prioritize based on daily needs
- Proven solid coaching and mentoring skills.
- Demonstrated ability to train staff and develop subordinate's skills.
Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $60,200 to $107,400 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
