Industrial Sales Representative Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an industrial sales representative in Michigan?
Michigan does not require a state-issued license to work as an industrial sales representative, so the path centers on education and product expertise. Most employers prefer a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a technical field. Starting in an inside sales or sales support role at a Michigan industrial distributor or manufacturer is the most direct entry path, with promotion to outside or territory rep typically following demonstrated product knowledge and customer results.
How much do industrial sales representatives make in Michigan?
Industrial sales representatives in Michigan earn a median of about $72,980 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $39,740 for the lowest 10% to over $136,050 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire industrial sales representatives in Michigan?
Employers hiring industrial sales representatives in Michigan right now include Snap-on, SunSource, and Ace Petroleum, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Michigan's dense concentration of automotive suppliers, fluid power distributors, and specialty chemical producers means hiring is spread across both large multinationals and regional industrial distributors with established Michigan offices.
Which Michigan cities have the most industrial sales representative jobs?
Detroit, Muskegon, and Kalamazoo have the most industrial sales representative openings in Michigan. Detroit anchors the market given its automotive and advanced manufacturing base, while Grand Rapids draws strong hiring from West Michigan's furniture, food processing, and automation equipment industries, and smaller hubs reflect the footprint of major regional distributors and Tier 1 automotive suppliers.
Are there remote industrial sales representative jobs in Michigan?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based roles, since industrial sales typically requires on-site visits to plants, warehouses, and customer facilities. About 0% of industrial sales representative openings tied to Michigan are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and these tend to be inside sales or account management roles where customer contact is handled by phone, video, and digital channels rather than field travel.
How can I get hired as an industrial sales representative in Michigan with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an inside sales or sales coordinator role at a Michigan industrial distributor, where you build product knowledge and customer relationship skills before moving to a territory position. Large Michigan-based employers in automation, fluid power, and chemical distribution regularly hire recent graduates into rotational or associate sales programs. A technical degree in engineering or manufacturing technology gives candidates a clear edge, as does any coursework or certification in fluid systems or industrial automation.
Where can I find and apply to industrial sales representative jobs in Michigan?
You can find and apply to industrial sales representative jobs in Michigan on Migrate Mate, which lists current Michigan openings updated regularly. Find the roles that fit your experience and target territory, then apply directly to the employers posting them.
