We are seeking a passionate and dependable Youth Culinary & Nutrition Enrichment Instructor to lead interactive cooking classes that emphasize nutrition education, healthy eating habits, and practical life skills.

Our culinary program introduces children to nutritious ingredients, balanced meals, food preparation, and making informed food choices. The ideal candidate combines culinary knowledge with creativity, strong teaching skills, and a commitment to youth health and wellness.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead engaging, hands-on culinary and nutrition classes for elementary and middle school students.
• Teach nutrition fundamentals, balanced meals, food groups, and healthy eating habits.
• Develop nutritious, age-appropriate recipes that encourage students to explore new foods.
• Incorporate lessons on food labels, portion awareness, and making informed food choices.
• Encourage positive relationships with food through inclusive, judgment-free nutrition education.
• Teach fundamental cooking techniques, food preparation, and kitchen safety.
• Develop or implement age-appropriate culinary lesson plans and activities.
• Create ingredient lists and purchase groceries within an approved budget.
• Transport groceries, supplies, and instructional materials to assigned locations.
• Communicate ingredient, equipment, and supply needs in advance.
• Follow food safety, sanitation, and allergy-management procedures.
• Maintain an organized, positive, and engaging classroom environment.
• Encourage creativity, teamwork, independence, and student participation.
• Coordinate professionally with SKDanceProject leadership and program staff.
• Complete classroom setup and cleanup.

Qualifications

• Experience in culinary arts, nutrition education, food preparation, or related fields.
• Previous experience teaching or working with elementary or middle school students.
• Knowledge of basic nutrition principles and healthy food preparation.
• Ability to translate nutrition concepts into engaging, age-appropriate activities.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Knowledge of food handling, sanitation, and kitchen safety.
• Ability to develop and facilitate culinary lessons independently.
• Strong organizational skills, reliability, and professionalism.
• Reliable personal transportation throughout Philadelphia.
• Ability to transport groceries and instructional materials.

Food Safety Certifications

• ServSafe Food Handler certification or equivalent recognized food safety training required before beginning instruction.
• ServSafe Food Protection Manager certification strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated understanding of food allergies, cross-contamination prevention, sanitation, and safe food preparation.

*Candidates who do not currently hold Food Handler certification may apply but must obtain appropriate certification before their first assignment.

_ Required Clearances & Documentation_

Candidates must possess or be willing to obtain applicable clearances and documentation before beginning assignments:

• Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Clearance (Act 34)
• Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151)
• FBI Fingerprint Clearance (Act 114 or applicable DHS fingerprint clearance)
• Mandated Reporter Training (Act 126)
• National Sex Offender Registry verification, where required
• Proof of applicable liability insurance
• Completed W-9 and independent contractor agreement

Additional requirements may apply depending on the assigned program.

_ Schedule & Compensation_

Position Type: Part-Time Independent Contractor

Schedule: Primarily weekday afternoons during after-school programming.

Location: Various school and community sites throughout Philadelphia.

Compensation: $75–$100 per assigned instructional session, based on experience, session duration, and responsibilities.

Approved grocery expenses are reimbursed separately.

Session compensation includes the agreed preparation, shopping, teaching, setup, and cleanup responsibilities. Total work expectations and compensation are confirmed before each assignment.

Assignments typically involve one instructional session per day. Additional sessions are compensated separately.

Opportunities for multiple-site assignments and ongoing partnerships may be available.
