Insurance Jobs in San Diego: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a insurance job in San Diego?
Focus your search on San Diego's largest insurance-hiring sectors: healthcare systems in Kearny Mesa, defense contractors and federal agencies near Miramar, and financial services firms downtown and in La Jolla. Candidates with experience in commercial lines, employee benefits, or medical stop-loss stand out here. Networking through local industry associations and targeting mid-size regional carriers alongside national firms gives you the broadest access to openings.
Which companies hire insurances in San Diego?
San Diego insurance roles are posted by Aflac, Primerica, and BNBuilders and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. The local market includes a strong mix of national carriers with regional offices, specialty health plans, and insurance operations embedded within San Diego's large hospital networks and biotech employers.
Are there remote insurance jobs in San Diego?
Yes, though it depends on the role: claims adjusting, underwriting, and account management tend to offer more remote flexibility than roles requiring in-person client contact or on-site inspections. About 50% of insurance openings tied to San Diego are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting broader industry trends. Analytical and desk-based roles at San Diego's health plans and surplus lines firms are the most likely to offer remote options.
How can I get a insurance job in San Diego with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in San Diego is through customer service or claims intake roles at regional health plans or large national carriers with local offices in Mission Valley and Kearny Mesa. Many San Diego employers promote from within, so starting as a claims support rep or policy service associate can lead quickly to licensed adjuster or underwriter positions. Obtaining a California Property and Casualty or Life and Health license before applying signals commitment and accelerates hiring conversations.
Which industries hire the most insurances in San Diego?
San Diego insurance roles concentrate in Insurance and Healthcare & Medical Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. San Diego's large military population, extensive hospital network, and growing life sciences sector create sustained demand for benefits administration, workers' compensation, and specialized health insurance expertise across the region.
