IT Project Manager Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a it project manager in New Jersey?
New Jersey does not require a state-issued license to work as an it project manager, so the path runs through education and industry credentials. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or business, combined with the Project Management Professional certification issued by the Project Management Institute. Candidates who build experience in business analysis, systems administration, or IT support roles in New Jersey's pharma, finance, or defense sectors are well positioned to move into project management.
How much do IT project managers make in New Jersey?
IT project managers in New Jersey earn a median of about $122,980 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $74,410 for the lowest 10% to over $190,600 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire it project managers in New Jersey?
Employers hiring it project managers in New Jersey right now include Leidos, Parsons, and Panasonic, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New Jersey's concentration of pharmaceutical headquarters, financial services firms, and large federal contractors means demand remains consistent across both enterprise and consulting environments throughout the state.
Which New Jersey cities have the most it project manager jobs?
Camden, New Jersey, and Edison have the most it project manager openings in New Jersey. Newark drives volume through its financial services and technology corridor, Princeton and the Route 1 corridor attract demand from pharmaceutical and biotech headquarters, and Parsippany pulls postings from the insurance and professional services firms that have based large operations there.
Are there remote it project manager jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 67% of it project manager openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the role centers on coordination, documentation, and stakeholder meetings that travel well over video. The parts of the role most commonly done fully on-site are vendor walkthroughs, data center projects, and regulated pharma implementations where physical presence is required by the client.
How can I get hired as a it project manager in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a business analyst, IT support, or junior systems analyst role at a New Jersey employer, then taking on informal project coordination responsibilities before pursuing a formal PM title. Large employers in the pharma corridor, including those based in the Princeton and Parsippany areas, run rotational technology programs and associate project manager tracks that accept candidates without direct PM experience. Earning a Certified Associate in Project Management credential from the Project Management Institute gives a New Jersey applicant a concrete credential to cite alongside that lateral experience.
