Lab Assistant Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a lab assistant in Florida?
Most lab assistant positions in Florida require at minimum a high school diploma, though employers increasingly prefer candidates with an associate degree in a life or health science. Florida does not license lab assistants through the state health department the way it licenses clinical laboratory technologists, but phlebotomy certification from a nationally recognized body such as the American Society for Clinical Pathology or the National Phlebotomy Association is widely expected. Many candidates enter through vocational programs at Florida community colleges.
Which companies hire lab assistants in Florida?
Companies currently hiring lab assistants in Florida include Quest Diagnostics, Health First, and Baptist Health, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Florida's dense network of hospital systems, independent reference labs, and pharmaceutical research campuses means openings are distributed across the state rather than concentrated in a single employer.
Which Florida cities have the most lab assistant jobs?
Tampa, Jacksonville, and Melbourne consistently post the most lab assistant openings in Florida. Miami anchors demand through its large hospital systems and reference laboratory networks, Orlando draws volume from AdventHealth and UCF Health, and Tampa benefits from a concentration of academic medical centers and outpatient diagnostic chains, while smaller cities on the list tend to have one or two large regional hospital employers driving their numbers.
Are there remote lab assistant jobs in Florida?
Yes, but they're rare. Lab assistant work is almost entirely hands-on, involving specimen handling, equipment operation, and in-person patient contact, so most positions require on-site presence. About 0% of lab assistant openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those few positions typically cover data entry, lab information system support, or remote accessioning roles rather than direct bench work.
How can I get hired as a lab assistant in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to patient service technician or specimen processor roles at large reference labs and hospital outpatient draw stations, which routinely hire candidates fresh out of phlebotomy certificate programs at Florida community colleges like Miami Dade, Valencia, or Hillsborough Community College. AdventHealth and HCA Florida both run new-graduate support tracks for entry-level lab roles. Earning an ASCP phlebotomy certification before applying gives candidates a measurable edge over unverified applicants.
Where can I find and apply to lab assistant jobs in Florida?
You can find and apply to lab assistant jobs in Florida on Migrate Mate, which lists current Florida openings updated in real time. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your experience and location, and apply directly to each position that fits.
