Financial Stability Center
Rhode Island Legal Services, Inc., a statewide program with its principal office in Providence, seeks one legal assistant for its Financial Stability Center. The position is located in the Providence office.
Responsibilities: Under the supervision of Supervising and Managing Attorneys, you will conduct client interviews and handle on-call responsibilities, including screening appointments, referring clients, and gathering pertinent information. Advocate for clients by negotiating on their behalf and representing them in appropriate administrative proceedings. Prepare drafts of letters, memos, motions, orders, pleadings, and other documents and materials related to assigned cases or projects. Maintain accurate and complete case records and files. When possible, provide translation services for non-English-speaking clients. Perform all other duties in accordance with the Union Contract.
Qualifications: Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Microsoft Office 365 is required. Applicants must be conscientious, organized, and responsible, and able to work independently. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate legal concepts effectively. Must possess strong negotiation and interpersonal skills and a commitment to working with low-income people. Oral and written proficiency in Spanish is preferred.
