Legal Assistant Jobs in Georgia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a legal assistant in Georgia?
The most direct path is completing an associate or bachelor's degree in paralegal or legal studies from an ABA-approved program, several of which are offered by Georgia institutions including Georgia State University and Kennesaw State University. Georgia does not require a state license to work as a legal assistant, but earning a Certified Paralegal credential from the National Association of Legal Professionals strengthens your application considerably with Georgia law firms and state agencies.
Which companies hire legal assistants in Georgia?
Georgia legal assistant roles are posted by Morgan & Morgan, Emory University, and Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Atlanta's concentration of AmLaw 100 firms and the state's large public-sector legal offices in agencies like the Georgia Attorney General's office sustain consistent demand across the state.
Which Georgia cities have the most legal assistant jobs?
Atlanta, Macon, and Decatur lead Georgia for legal assistant openings. Atlanta dominates because of its dense concentration of large law firms, Fortune 500 corporate legal departments, and state government offices, while Savannah and Augusta draw steady demand from regional firms, healthcare systems, and local government legal teams serving their metro populations.
Are there remote legal assistant jobs in Georgia?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields because legal assistants frequently handle physical filings, in-person client contact, and on-site court support. About 6% of legal assistant openings tied to Georgia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the reality that most positions still require at least some courthouse or office presence. Document review, legal research, and drafting tasks are the sub-functions most likely to be offered in a remote or hybrid arrangement.
How can I get hired as a legal assistant in Georgia with little or no experience?
Starting as a legal secretary or file clerk at a mid-size Atlanta firm is the most realistic first step, since those roles convert to legal assistant positions once you demonstrate competency with case management software and court procedures. Georgia's public defender offices and legal aid organizations, including Georgia Legal Services Program, regularly bring on entry-level candidates for support roles that build courtroom and client-facing experience quickly. Earning a Certified Paralegal credential while in an entry role signals commitment and accelerates promotion.
Where can I find and apply to legal assistant jobs in Georgia?
You can find and apply to legal assistant jobs in Georgia on Migrate Mate, which lists current Georgia openings across law firms, corporate legal departments, and government offices. Search the roles available, identify the ones that match your experience and preferred practice area, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
